You must be very steady. I never found the E-P1's IS to be worth more than about 2 stops. In most cases, it handily compensated for the extra shake from not using a viewfinder. With my OM-D, I can get sharp shots with the 45 at around 1/5 second, and I've gotten sharp shots at 1/2 sec with wide angles, but 1/2 sec with the 45 on an E-P1 means you are extremely steady. That's over 5 stops from normal handholding speeds. My bet is you could manage 1/15 sec without IS.

Jman13, yeah, I have to take credit for very careful technique and propping myself or camera against whatever I could when there was something to lean against. Not overly impressed with the IS, but for one of the few times that I actually used it, almost half of these photos came out sharp enough which I thought was impressive. I'm typically a tripod shooter -- much better!

I look forward to trying this sort of thing with the E-P5 one day.

Yeah, the Canon IS is pretty much topnotch! Was never all that impressed with the IBIS on my E-P1 and typically have it shut off, but it can still be handy. Guess there is still a Canon vs. IBIS argument going on... obviously, if you need the "best," Canon will provide it in their top lenses, but for a gimme, Oly IBIS is a nice addition... especially when you are shooting adapted lenses.

The E-P5 looks pretty nice to me!

Think I'll probably be more likely to upgrade from my E-P1 to an OM-D when prices are slashed to make way for the new OM-D II. Chasing the newest body lost its allure years ago... Canon 20D I think.

The OM-D IBIS is easily as good as any in-lens IS I've ever used. (Last Canon IS lens I owned was the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II, so I've used great Canon IS).

Good to know Jman13. Back when I was shooting Canon and on the Canon board here there were all kinds of internet experts "proving" by all kinds of mumbo-jumbo techno-chatter why no IBIS could ever be as good as in lens IS.

Plan on upgrading to either OM-D or E-P5... whichever gets closed out for under $500 first. Oly history is that every body drops by at least half when the new model is introduced. E-P3 kits listed at $900 when it was introduced and are now under $400 new. My E-P1 listed at ~$1000 when it was introduced and I got mine new for $300 after the E-P2 was introduced.

I think IS can be better than IBIS for really long lenses or some such, but IBIS works for every lens, even a 25/1.4...

The OMD IBIS seems way more effective than any lens based IS I've used. (Canon 24-105, Nikon 24-120, Canon 100L macro, Canon 17-55 IS).

I don't even think about shutter speeds and focal lengths on the OMD (though my longest lens is the 75). I only think about shutter speeds on this camera for stopping action. It's incredible, really. Shooting easily at 1/30 with a 150mm equivalent is very nice.

very promising bmwrider75!!!

I'm often shooting at 1-30 sec. Like maintaining a reasonable amount of DoF most of the time, so I'm not going to think about ditching my tripod anytime soon.

Which is only 2 1/3 stop. That's nice, but not lens-IS like.
