p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Screech Owlet in B&W

Screech owl is my favorite owl in Florida. While I have not seen many images posted of this species, I have been very fortunate to have this opportunity to photography them this season. Here is a shot that I shot recently, full frame right out of the camera, converted into black and white to give a different feel. I included the nest in this composition to show more of the environment. What do you think?
5D Mark III, 400mm 5.6L, 1/400, f/11, ISO1600, filled flash, full frame.

I really like your composition Troy... personally, B&W isn't my preference for bird photography so I would love to see it in color.

From a distance, the bird looks like a bump on a log. They do blend in well, which probably helps their survival rate. Nice shot Troy.

Troy, B&W really works great on wildlife if there is very good directional light and nice textures.
So I like to see the color version here too.

I like the overall concept of the composition, Troy. However the inclusion of the nest doesn't add to the image IMO. The dark splotch is distracting and taking my eyes away from the subject which, di per se, is already small in the frame and the B&W doesn't help its isolation
I know it is a matter of personal taste, but look at the difference. (I'll take it down once you'll see it)
What kind of color profile did you use anyway?

Yea, the more I look at it, color version might have been better. Still the cavity was over powering the bird.
I am using Adobe RGB.
