Still waiting for FF NEX? All the signs are very discouraging so far, and the addition of the Touit line is one more proof it ain't gonna happen.

I personally don't really want a Sony full frame mirrorless camera, simply because my D800e does everything I want. The NEX7 is a travel/carry around camera that I'm just trying to upgrade. I might buy a Nikon mirrorless when they come out with a full frame version as a backup camera that can use my optics. I'm pretty excited about Touit lenses and then really hoping they take the NEX to a new level. I'll be getting my hands on the new Zeiss lenses in about 45 minutes!

A FF Sony mirrorless -which is coming, don't kid yourself - will really only interest me if it has at a minimum the Sony 36MP sensor in it.

One can only hope. I want a FF mirrorless body as a home for my Leica R lenses so I don't have to change their mounts.

I think Sony drew the lines clearly between their FF DSLR line and APS mirrorless line. I would be very surprised if we see a FF mirrorless in at least 4-5 years. But that's only my gut feeling.

No way. Sony saw the popularity of the NEX. FF is coming. We'll all be posting our anxiousness with our position in the preorder line this time next year. 3 FF NEX Zeiss lens rumored for next Summer.

I would be pleasantly surprised if that would be true, but that is very very unlikely. Zeiss are unable to make more than 1-2 new lenses a year, so now we have 2 touits, 2-3 ZM, 1 ZA, 2 Z* high end, and 3 FF Nex?

The RX1 and VG900 make me think otherwise. Someone is going to do it, Sony would be crazy to let it not be them.

Developing lenses takes years. We have no idea of what they have on the table for tomorrow.
If I were Zeiss, I would have started developing FF lenses for short flange distance, years ago. But until such a camera exist, they can't end the design and there is no reason for telling everyone else what they are planning.

SAR had this with SR5 rating:

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-zeiss-e-mount-full-frame-lens-scheduled-for-a-june-2014-release/

From Jan 2013:
Some bits about the Sony-Zeiss collaboration:

First of all it is confirmed that the next three Zeiss primes (2.8/12, 1.8/32 and 2.8/50 macro) for the NEX system will cover APS-C only. But at the same time Sony and Zeiss made an agreement on FF E-mount lenses. And it works like that: Zeiss will now design at least three new E-mount Full Frame prime lenses. They will have to possibility to test the lenses on a non final prototype. Zeiss has scheduled the official release of the lenses for June 2014! Sources didnít unveil me the detailed lens specs yet also because nothing

Yes, but if you wanna believe SAR, Sony's CEO changed a lot of the earlier plans. Let's see.

I agree with Edward. I think we will eventually see a Sony FF mirrorless but it won't be nearly as soon as some are hoping. I also think it will carry a high price point - between $4-5K is my guess. When it does finally happen, it will be exciting times indeed.

I would like to get some sign from Sony on this FF NEX business. My decision on either Touit 12, Rokinon 14, and Sony 10-18 relies on this. Rokinon is FF ready (atleast they claim). Sony 10-18 would be a versatile stop gap till FF NEX. $1200 is quite a lot of money to put down on an APS-C wide angle if you think FF NEX is coming next Spring. I don't mind spending good money on quality glass, but I sure want small, discrete FF.

I think Sony would hedge their bets and not reveal too much as it would hurt current potential sales (like you!) and tip their hand to the competition. SAR though has a very accurate track record with rumors that have an SR5 rating. I'm pretty confident it will happen next year myself - but I would not expect to actually be able to buy anything until next summer at the earliest.

Nex Touit Samples

Sony's 2012 results show that compact market is shrinking and interchangeable market is doing better. RX1 sales was doing good too though I don't know now. Also another report was showing that the full frame market is the only expanding area in the photo camera industry last year. There is no competition other then Leica in the full frame mirrorless market so the release is coming but prices might be high. The new CEO is slowing some of the releases to have better products, eg 7N, which is good esp with so many bodies as lenses are on the market for Sony.

Yes. Though for mostly f/2.8 they look pretty good so far.

I tested the 32mm 1.8 Touit today on my NEX-7 but had trouble with the lens hunting focus. Did anyone else test this lens today and find this happening with it? This might have been a preproduction sample. I will be reviewing the files and posting some hundred percent crops later on. I also tested the 12mm 2.8 Zeiss against the Sony 10 -18 mm. My preliminary impressions are that the Zeiss lenses definitely have more micro-contrast and that's Zeiss look but as far as sharpness goes they do not blow away the Sigma 30 or the Sony 10-18 I've asked some other people to take a look at the raw files and see what they think. Has anyone looked at the other reviews that came out in the last couple of days? What as the consensus on the two lenses?
Thanks Dennis

I'm assuming the Nex 7n will support both CDAF and PDAF and hoping the new Touits can utilize both types of AF. This may make AF a little snappier.

The CEO tossed out the new A mount cameras, to get the FF mirrorless development focus and support - for 2014. It's that important to them.

The NEX APS-C is closing in on becoming extremely viable as a high end system in that arena; the new NEX7 will see six months more dev now and will lack a AA (so say the - note - very reliable rumour site. Look for more DR and SNR, less mid-high ISO noise (current bane of this sensor), more functionality (gained from the FF program) aimed at making it a better match for the new Touits.

The days of NEX as a wholly cheap option are drawing to a close, for the higher models anyway. Sony are masters of niche production - NEX is now two classes.

The NEX5n jpegs on the translation site look pretty decent for what they are. Maybe Sony took an early look at Touit and sent the 'NEX7n' (no longer to be called that, which is significant when you understand the Japanese) back for more work.
