p.1 #1 · backpack with water bladder compartment

Hey FMers,

I need some help. I'm looking for a daypack for hiking with room for a laptop, some camera gear, and most important, a separate compartment for a water bladder. That compartment would preferably by waterproof and insulated so a bladder malfunction (wow, that sounds bad) or leak wouldn't destroy the gear. What do you use for your outdoor adventures/ photo trips?

many thanks in advance for your help.

Hiking packs has been a hot topic here lately, with most of the support going towards F-stop bags. The compartment isn't waterproof, but they sell a little waterproof bag to put your bladder in so it doesn't leak.

I suggest you read this topic here:

I tend to use proper non-photo backpacks for this reason and store the camera and lenses in LowePro pouches.

For the past 5 years I've used a lowepro dryzone rover. For me it works well because it is comfortable, reasonably sized, and carries a full size tripod efficiently. The waterproof zipper is a pain to move so most of the time I just zip the inner bag. However, when traveling by canoe or hiking in/next to a river (think narrows @ Zion) it's reassuring.

I recently purchased a Lowepro Pro Trekker 400 from Best Buy which was on sale at a terrific price. It does have a pocket with waterproof lining designed for a water bladder. All 3 sizes of the Pro Trekker have this pocket with lining for a water bladder.
