Thanks Ray,

From other comments, apparently an expression that is widely used by a number of wives.

Maybe a genetic thing?

The kids want to apply to coffee mugs - perhaps for Christmas.

Ragards,

Bob

My wife is a teacher, and I've seen this and some even more withering looks on her face.
It has quite an effect on the students.
Nicely captured Bob.

Like the shot, Bob.
When I was teaching 4th grade- I towered over the little buggers; I had a mustache, a loud and deep voice, and I was their first man teacher.
After a week in class, if I gave them such a look, they all would have fallen to the floor with laughter . They had me figured out pretty fast.
I had other ways that worked, but a withering look wasn't one of them .

Thank you! Mine put away her grade book some years ago but has not lost her touch, frequently practicing on me - with cause of course

Regards,

Bob

Thanks Charlie,

Glad you enjoy it- her approach - 8th grade Spec. Ed. - you (that is she) cannot smile for at least the first two weeks of the school year; identify the class 'leader' and focus on him/her, others will fall in line; and if you (the teacher) allow one deviation from your stated rules, you are toast. That said, she burned out, as do they all.

Regards,

Bob

Bob, I know exactly what you mean.
For one year I taught 5th/6th special education (the original pilot program in Santa Monica CA- way back in 1969).
My nine kids had average IQs, but horrendous behavioral problems.
My first day there, a boy had me by the necktie and was hitting me on the chest.
"Welcome to special ed, Mr Shugart."
Charlie
PS, I went from that year- straight back to the regular classroom scene .

Speaking from long experience if you don't have "the look" and equally important "the voice" you're toast. Kids know, so you can't fake it.

I suspect more than one of my grammar school teachers used such a look on me. Doesn't appear to have worked though

Great shot.
