I have a Nikon D90 and I am interested in these two flashes. I'm new to using flash for photos so I would like some feedback on what the main differences are between these two. Both seem to have gotten the good reviews and both cost about the same.

Well the main differences are the power output guide number 58 Yongnuo vs 30 SB600. That's quite significant difference. Also Yongnuo has external power pack connector and PC sync port. I'd probably go for the more powerful flash so in this case Yongnuo.

And at that point I'd get a Nissin flash

If that is important to you, the YN-565EX is not have a Hi-sync mode. For that, you will need to get the more expensive YN-568EX.

After reading how important hi-sync mode is (to stop motion, as well as using it as a fill in light in direct sunlight) I think I'm going to go with the YN-568EX.
