There is a huge difference. Duct tape is a metal foil tape made for use on ductwork. Once applied, it will ever come off without destroying it.

Duck tape is a cloth tape made for general use. Duck tape eventually dries out and falls off. Yours is a common misconception.

That's aluminum foil tape. It is for ducts, but it's not what people are talking about when they say duct tape. Look at 3m's naming even:

http://www.3m.com/product/information/Aluminum-Foil-Tape.html

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Adhesives/Tapes/Products/?N=5472497&rt=c3

Or look at Duck tapes web site, where they describe it as duct tape:

http://duckbrand.com/products/duck-tape/original-duck-tape-reg/all-purpose-grade-duck-tape

Or look at the duct tape wiki article:

Gaffer tape is the choice, though I sincerely hope the OP is joking...

On the subject of tape chat, Industry Tape is supposedly the new hotness: http://industrytape.com/

I've never actually tried it but supposedly it's even better than gaffer tape for not leaving residue while still being strong.

I have no use for the pop-up flash on my Nikon D800E and the housing for this protrudes out over the aperture ring on my Zeiss lenses so that I have trouble seeing what aperture they are set at.

I was thinking of having the pop-up flash removed and the 'nose' with the large Nikon name in white cut off so that I can see the aperture ring.

Has anyone done this?

Well, if you are shooting close-up subjects you can always put an extension tube on it so you can get the aperture ring out from underneath the flash protuberance . . . .

You can also do this with zf.1 versions if you set the "non cpu-lens information" from the settings menu.

Use that black Gorilla tape like I did on my 5D2.
Blends right in so you will not be embarrassed by what you shoot.
Plus, everyone will think you are shooting a "Prototype" camera.
