Nice captures, but there is quite a bit of noise in the backgrounds.

Thanks Morris. What should I do to them? They don't look as sharp as they could be to me.

Thanks birdied. Heavy crop. How do I correct a noisy background with a jpeg?

I tried to reduce the noise, but I'm really new to PP. Gary
It will be interesting to find out.

Gary , there are a lot more folks on here who are much better at post than I. I did try and reduce the noise by following this procedure by Tim ---

Noise Reduction

This is a real rough version , but it will give you some idea.

Do you ever shoot in raw?

I'll take the shot down it you wish.

Hi Dave, I have also played little with post processing to show how you can improve. Since I have used your jpeg low resolution image bit difficult to get a higher quality processing work.

When you meter a subject like a bold eagle it represents extreme shadows and extreme highlights where you need to handle your pp work very carefully. I have used selective curves, selective shadow/highlight bars and selective sharpening in PS6 and ran through Imagenomic Noiseware to reduce the back ground noise. I felt the subject noise is acceptable to my taste. Hence only reduced the background noise. Also applied Auto contrast in PS6 to give some contrast as well.

Hope these tips may help you.

Jude

Hello Dave!

Importantly you have nicely preserved the whites. The trickery here is opening up the shadows if you with too and watching the whites so they do not get gray but maybe a wee bit more white.
I tinkered with the darks quite a bit, I tinkered with the whites and the yellows of the beak, I tinkered with the eye area a bit. I also sharpened the image..........

You have a decent file, expose and watch for 'blinkies' in your LCD, the light and time of day are important on shots like this as well as a knowledge of what one can achieve in PP work. Curves in Photoshop are very helpful as is selective work on specific areas...........You did good on your shots, as you continue to learn PP you can offer more from you files.

Here is an interpretation from your shot............take care and keep at it in this good way

Congrats on everyone's efforts to produce better results, but I think that is a bit hard to do when nobody has the original image to work on. We have no idea how much cropping was done. If these images were over-cropped to start with, it is hard to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

I'm pretty sure they were way over cropped. I don't have ps or the skills or time to do much pp. I spend most of my weekend hours shooting. I watch the blinkies, but the light changes by the minute where I shoot. I try to expose for the fishing shot as that is what I most want to capture. When I get a flight shot, I'm so involved with the tracking that I really don't ever think about checking the metering to spin the wheel. If I did I would surely miss the shot entirely. It all happens in a few split seconds. I need to think and react faster.

I'd like to post the original here but I'm not sure how to add it. So, I'll post the original in my next post.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I really do appreciate it. Dave

Gary your pp looked the best to my eyes. Most of the pp my eyes don't see much of a difference. Thanks for your work. Dave
