In Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.
During a cold spell at the beginning of winter.
The lake level drops, but the Maligne River still flows underground.

WOW!!! Like for real!

I am a sucker for BW images and yours is excellent but the blues in the colour image just makes the image! IMO the colour dominates the BW version.

Thanks Twisty and Scott.
I was surprised the conversion came out this well, since I don't know any procedure except click on desat, and improvise from there.
Re the colour () original: I actually had to tone down the blue cast to make it believable. It WAS that kind of day.
But then, I was using color () slide film.

The B&W does it for me. The colour image is just too blue for my liking.

I like the color version better. Really conveys a sense of cold and isolation with the blues.

What slide film were you using?

Beautiful Charlie! I'm torn between the two versions, but I think the color version tell more of the story of the shot....well done sir!

I prefer the BW image as the colour version is too blue.

Color!! The retrograde infatutuation with an obsolete technology is inexplicable! Wonderful images, Charlie.

Hey Charlie,

Nice work with this shot. All that snow, the slightly burned out sky works well together here. I like both versions, the color could stand on it's own, but the B&W is really well done.

Thanks guys and dolls .
I am amused by the term "retrograde infatuation with an obsolete technology." Especially when followed by a compliment to me .
Why? Because the image was shot on color film .

I rather enjoyed that turn of phrase myself, Charlie I'm just not much of a B&W fan. But I do love this image.

Thanks Sorpa and (again) alraC .
(I come from simpler times, when people were named Joe, Bill, Jane and Spitsnagle .)
I forgot to mention that I used slide film- either Kodachrome 64 or Ektachrome 100VS (this was a transition period because getting Kodachromes processed was becoming difficult.

Charlie,

This is a real killer photo from your "archives" . I like the color version myself even though the B&W is pretty good on its own.

Thanks Greg, Rob, Sunny, Jason and Guari.
Greg- Osgoogenslaugen slide film favors green; I prefer slide film that favors red .
