p.1 #1 · Great Horned Owl, a Hawk, and a Warbler?

Was able to get out shooting again today at a local state park called Antelope island...went on a LONG hike to the top of a mountain hoping to see some big horned sheep and saw NOTHING...then caught these guys on my last stop before going home.

Adult Male Great Horned Owl (my second owl ever! I know, the branch in the face, but I had to choose between this and like 50 branches covering him almost completely from any other angle.

100% crop of the above shot to get a good look at his eyes...

I *THINK* this is an immature coopers hawk...still not great at identifying some of these raptors

this one I'm kindof stumped on, I think its a warbler of some kind. but I can't figure out what kind exactly, any help is appreciated.

Nice set A ! The detail / color for your Great Horned Owl is remarkable.

#3 is a White-crowned Sparrow.

Best,
Tom

Thanks everyone...I was stoked to find the owl, that only the second owl I've ever been able to get a picture of.

White-Crowned sparrow, Thanks Tom! that one was driving me crazy.

#3 is not a Coopers but appears to be a Falcon or Merlin from what I see......

Nice work on the owls, bird books that have the hand drawings in them are good sources to use for ID work

Have fun..

yeah I still need to get a bird book, right now I'm just going off cornell's site, and a few others. it does look merlin-ish, though merlins are mostly here in winter from my research, I guess this guy could have been just hanging out a little longer than normal, especially since its been a colder than usual spring so far.

Great Owl shots. Blue sky in #3 looks wrong.

no sky fill or anything like that, I did a small boost in sat though, around +6, mostly to get the feather colors to stand out a little, but yeah I agree the sky is a little strong, I should probably selectively reduce the blues.
