p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Seattle! (and a sandpiper in need of an ID)

Spent a few wonderful (albeit damp) days in Seattle, where Tim Kuhn was kind enough to show me around. I have about 100 Gb of images (including about 90 Gb of cormies), but here are a few from the kayak on a peaceful and pastoral morning. A real treat to see so many ducks that were semi-approachable; even the buffies weren't too skittish, and an opportunity to learn a lot from a great guy. (Thanks, Tim).

Oh...appreciate any criticism, suggestions, etc.

Greg

These are super fantastic Greg! You you get to hang out with Tim.

Wow! Hard to pick, but I'll go with the Bufflehead. Istrongly believe the last image is the Dunlin.

Great looking set Greg. I'm leaning towards the pbg. A little cutie that one.

Great shots. Dunlin on the ID.

Looks like you may have recovered some detail in the Bufflehead's whites? The reflection is brighter than the bird, which I have read is a physical impossibility. May want to do the same to the reflection.

Again, good work. I suck at getting close to critters.

Thanks, Jared. And, yes, it seems to me that Buffies were intelligently (or not so intelligently) designed to exceed the range of canon sensors; the edited version no longer defies the laws of physics!)

Hi Greg - I think these are fantastic. Can't beat the low angle you get from a kayak.

Love the cleanness of the dunlin ---- nice perch and background.

The PB Grebe is soooo cute!

Thanks for sharing.
Cris

PS Way to go Tim.

First off I would like to say that Greg looks just like his avatar in person. He's even monochromatic!

Wow Greg, what a rocking set. These are sharp stem to stern with great poses.

1 super job on the techs, great looking shot, nice background
2 all this needs is a bit of head turn towards you a bit
3 I hate to say this but that's a full grown bird in breeding plumage! The sharpie line in the bill is the telltale sign of breeding ready. They are SMALL birds
4 Super shot in for dishwater we were paddling around in. Wow, wish I saw him
5 He looks mighty good to me. Maybe warm it up in RAW a bit to rid the whites of the blues. I would also tone down the background some

One other overall nit, I'm not a big fan of reflections just because you have one. IMHO I would have cropped them out of all of these but... that is quite personal and many love these reflections I'm sure

Really nice Greg, can't wait to see some of your Cormies! I'm still digging through mine

Fixed! (except for the gad head turn and the reflections, need to work on those). I'm used to seeing plain brown PB Grebes in Alabama...I knew there was something different about this one (two actually), but I mistook sexual maturity for youth, a common mistake for a Southerner.

Thanks, Khai.

Those West Coast birds have a laid back attitude (kind of like the photographers who capture them!)

Thank you, Cris; Guess I confused cuteness for youth!

Thanks, Dorian. There was a cluster of cormies and sandpipers; as I drifted in, the cormies took off but the dunlins were unperturbed!
