I suppose this is as alt, but also as gear free as possible
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-22150973
"World Pinhole Day is an annual event on the last Sunday in April, and last year around 4,000 people from 74 countries celebrated the joy of making photographs through a small hole, then uploading their favourite image of the day on to the Pinhole Day gallery. "

Post your stuff here if you take any next week (or already do)

I have about a dozen or so Nex body caps. I could only find rear lens caps with body caps when I was looking for a boat load of lens caps as I started using Nex seriously so there's a bag full of body caps in my cupboard.

If anyone wants one, email or PM me your name and address and they go 1st come 1st served... no charge.

Tom, nice start to the thread.
Kosmoskatten.. no worries

Can any pinhole officianados suggest a starting hole size for an APSC/Nex? would not be too good to cut a hole too big to begin with....

OK, maybe I got the answer

"Up to a certain point, the smaller the hole, the sharper the image, but the dimmer the projected image. Optimally, the size of the aperture should be 1/100 or less of the distance between it and the projected image"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinhole_camera

If that is true then a Nex would be a 0.2mm hole as the flange distance is 18mm. there's no way I'm going to get a hole that small. The cap will have to be thinned a lot as well to stop excessive vignetting from a tunnel through the material.

Hi Mike,

Great idea. Here's a pinhole photo I just took with my DIY solution, Mark II. I drilled a hole through a camera body cap, about 10mm diameter, and then I tape a piece of tinfoil over it, with a small pin hole in the tinfoil. My Mk I version wasn't quite as sharp (not as round), and the sensor was covered with some awesome debris - I guess I was excited to try it and forgot to clean off the inside of the body cap.

My Mk II pinhole is probably about 0.5mm in diameter. It appears pretty round, but the edges have an uneven rim that sticks up from when the pin was pushed in. I'll try a few more variations, so I'm ready for Friday.

Cheers, Jim

Cool, I am STILL awaiting my Skink kit, pinhole, zone plate, zone sieve, for my FujiFilm X-E1, it's been a couple of weeks or more, should be here any day now, hopefully...
Hey, I had to use my eBay Bucks some way, yes?

Hi Jim, great idea. I had been thinking that I needed an oversize hole and something thin for a sub-mm hole. I was thinking of black plastic but Al foil is much easier.

What was your ISO and exposure?

Hi Mike,

Sorry, I should have said: 1DX, 1/8 sec, f/96, and ISO 400. The focal length is very close to 50mm, I'll call it 48mm, which gives an f-stop of f/96 for a 0.5mm hole diameter. I like the sound of "f/96"...

buggz2k,

looks like a nice pinhole. What I have come to realize is that each one has it's own unique sharp zone. I have yet to find it on mine but it looks like yours is hear the porch rail distance.

Now the real fun starts. shooting with it.

This sounds like fun. I just picked up a Holga pinhole lens for my Nikon digital bodies to play with this weekend. Looks like the weather is going to cooperate around here.

Wow, this small of an aperture sure shows ALL the freaking sensor dust spots, argh!
Anyone else experience this?

Now where is my rocket blower?

Hmm, i think i might see what i can do with some old apertures from our electron microscope - they should be pretty much perfect for this, being small and perfectly round.
