Looks like there's a rumor brewing of a new Art series Sigma 135mm 1.8 DG with OS and a Sigma 24 1.4 in development and to be announced later this year...

http://photorumors.com/2013/04/21/sigma-rumored-to-announce-135mm-f1-8-dg-os-art-lens/

Sounds intriguing...Who's interested? I have to say, after my great experience with Sigma's new 35 1.4, these two lenses will definitely be on my radar

I would be all over both of these.

OT, isn't one or the other (35/85) not an art series? Or is it not "DG" or something? I know there's a difference between the two (other than the obvious focal length).

That said, a 135 f/1.8 may be very, very cool, and if the 24 is more reliable for me than the Canon one, also very cool.

the Sigma 85 isn't in the Art series yet, although I'm sure they'll update it soon enough. I think the 135 will be especially sweet if it does actually come with OS

Did the art series come out after the 85? Any idea why it wasn't included?

Come on Sigma, stop just releasing short FL lenses and address the supertele market as well. Please release ASAP in sports series

400 f/4 OS or 200-400 f/4 OS
150-500 f/4-5.6 OS
300-800 f/5.6 OS
500 f/4 OS
400 f/5.6 OS
300 f/2.8 OS

And take a leaf from Canon's new lightweight construction.

Nice going Sigma. But what is Canon doing?

* People were waiting for the 35L II.
Sigma delivered!

* People are waiting for the 135L II.
Sigma will beat them to it (and with IS!!)

* People are waiting for a new 50 1.4.
Sigma will probably be first!

Besides, Sigma just launched the first 1.8 zoom lens, ever made. And it would not surprise me if Sigma release a new wide angle zoom before Canon. Maybe a 14-24.

So.. What is Canon doing? They are focusing too much on their cinematic crap imo.

The Art series is quite recent - the only DSLR lenses so far released are the 35/1.4 and the crop-only 30/1.4. The upcoming crop-only 18-35/1.8 will be the third Art lens. The 85 and 50 were released comparatively long ago, well before Sigma reorganized their lineup into Art, Sport, and Contemporary.

I'm definitely waiting for an Art-caliber 50 from Sigma! None of the options right now really do it for me.

The only lens in that lineup I'd be interested in from Canon is a new 50/1.4 to replace the quirky current offering. What's wrong with the 135L? It's still a great lens at a great price, arguably one of the sharpest primes Canon offers, so why do we need a version 2? The 35L also still gets plenty of praise, offers great bang for the buck and is far better made than the Sigma IMO.

Adding IS and widening the aperture to f/1.8 would give this new 135 over a 1 stop advantage in many low light situations compared to the 135L, as it would now be handholdable at much lower shutter speeds. Being able to shoot a 135mm prime at 1/50th, f/1.8 would be a revelation for many photographers - weddings and other evening/indoor events immediately come to mind.

1/50, me thinks you could get good results at 1/10 with 4 stop OS.

yes, but my point is that event shooters no longer have to increase the shutter speed to deal with longer focal lengths. If nobody is in your shot/nothing is moving, then 1/5th would probably be fine.

Sigma is really working on a lot of new stuff at the same time lately. So far the lenses that have come out have been great. Let hope they don't let speed hurt quality in their quest to improve sales. I'm sure they know what their doing though.

I ordered the 17-70mm f2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM lens and it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Here's hoping it turns out to be as good as others.

Let me tell you something folks. The Sigma 35 f/1.4 is a game changer. I am a Sigma convert because of that lens. If they pump out a 135 f/1.8 with OS I will be all over it. Also.....as soon as they artify the 85 f/1.4 I'll buy that too. That's how fantastic the 35mm from Sigma is. They won me over completely.

Canon has been making a lot of great lenses, as many photographers know. And they are distinctly not "cinematic crap", including the 24-70/2.8 II, the 8-15 fisheye, the 17TSE, the 24TSE, the 200/2, the 40 pancake, the 28/2.8 IS, the 24/1.4 II, the 85/1.2 II, the 70-200/2.8 II, etc., etc., etc.

People who wait for a "II" version of every lens are missing out on some already great lenses. When "II" versions are introduced, there will no doubt be people waiting for "III" versions.

Sorry Tom you are rather late to the game, many of us discovered Sigma lenses years ago that were superb. No need to artify the 85, it's already wonderful.

I thought Sigma already delivered that. But I'd love to see ultrasonic 50/1.4 sized as the EF-50/1.4 USM.

There is an interview dating back to November 2012:
http://www.lenstip.com/index.php?art=135

AO: The 85 mm model is currently the portrait lens with the longest focal length in the Sigma line-up. Can customers expect that, in the era of digital full frame becoming more and more popular, there will be a 135 mm device launched in the near future? What's your opinion?
KY: There have been a lot of requests concerning that type of lens. It used to be a very popular device; now it is not so popular anymore. Still there seem to be an increase of interest in it and, as I've already said, we want to have a full line-up of

I think the frustration with Canon is that with the exception of the 24-70 2.8 II, the only new lens announced lately by Canon besides STM stuff for the Rebels has been the 24-70 f/4L, which about 3 people on the planet currently own.

I think people just want to see the game continue to get moved forward, and Canon has been pretty dry on that front as of late. Now to be fair- when new lenses have been announced, they've been great IMO. The 70-200 II, 70-300L, 24-70 2.8 II, all great lenses.

I think people just want to know what "game changer" Canon is going to release in 2013.
