p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Family Shoot

Had a Family shoot the other day and thought I'd post some shots for C&C if y'all would. I had a heck of a time getting the young boy to smile. I think the sun was getting to his eyes and bothering him. Anyay thanks for looking and look forward to the comments. Thanks!

Shooting in bright sun is tough. It's a good time to use some fill flash.
I think you tried to take in too much of this amazing scenery. Personally I would get in a lot closer and fill more of the frame with the family. My two bits. What did the client say about them? That's what MATTERS.

It was very difficult. The only reason I was shooting so wide was because the family wanted the mountains in the background. I didn't even think about a fill light. I should of used it though. Would worked perfectly. What do you guys think of asking them to reshoot? Bad practice or shows them you want them to be perfect? I mean I'm doing them for free to build my port.

so they are not your family, it's OK for free but like the other poster indicated, next time get closer and learn to use fill flash

Thanks for the info. I'll see if they want to shoot again and I'll use the fills

You can do a lot to them in post, just create a layer with them in it and lighten them up and add some warmth to them. It will increase noise a bit, but still much better than all the extra time going through a reshoot.

Amazing mountains are good background. Amazing OOF mountains - not so much.

I visualize "frame filling" crops of several of these rather than your versions with so much empty space around them. In other words - zoom in on the people and make them big in the frame.
