I think the comment about it being ff 24-70 price is probably over the top if your talking in terms of the mk2

If you are referring to my comment then I didn't mean that it would be priced similar to Canon's 24-70. If this was made by canon then yes I would have expected it to be about the same price as Canon's 24-70 2.8. But since this is from so Sigma I would expect it to be about the same price as a high end third party FF 24-70mm f2.8 such as the one from Tamron.

what do yall think the price tag will be?

Considering the 17-50 2.8 OS is ~$500 and 17-55 2.8 IS is ~800-900, I'd put this new at $800-900 at least.

I'd say it would have to be over $1k. Here's hoping that they will redo the 50mm 1.4 into an Art lens and maybe come out with some standard f/1.8 zoom for FF.

Quickly dropping to $1K unless demand is insanely high, which is a strong possibility if it is excellent.

Sigma needs to redo the whole line-up. For a start the 20/24/28 f/1.8 need to be entirely redone and use HSM, much better coatings and their new FLD glass. They need to add a OS to the 500, 800 and 300-800 and preferably make an f/4 model of the 500. They should bring back the excellent 400 f/5.6 APO, with OS, and HSM. They need to do a sports series high quality 500mm zoom and who cares if it doubles in price if they get the IQ way up. A 125-500 f/4-5.6 OS HSM that is fully optimised for the long end, unlike their current offerings. Maybe they could look at 400 f/4 or 200-400 f/4 as well. Next they need a FF UWA zoom, possibly a 14-28 f/2.8 or even a 16-40 f/4 OS.

Same.

I just got the Siggy 35 and it's great. This lens is super intriguing!

I really want a FF 24-50 F2. I haven't ever really thought of it as being something that might actually get designed and released. Now it seems like a real possibility. Good job sigma, now a FF model please.

Well anything is possible . If you make the thing big enough you could make a f1.0 zoom (I'm not saying the quality would be there)
Sigma are not the first to come out with a faster than 2.8 zoom , but this is the fastest and covers a larger sensor .
Olympus have a 14-35 & 35-100 f2 pair . Thing is they are priced up wher the 24-70 mk2 & 70-200 ismk2 are and your really only getting a comparable lens to the FF f4's which are much cheaper . Although the oly lenses are said to be great IQ .

Not everyone is concerned with FF equivalence (if there's such a thing, broadly speaking). A pro APS-C user (I know some) will measure this lens again the available options - all of which are at least 1 1/3 stop slower - not against a hypothetical FF body that he/she doesn't have and doesn't plan to get. And here, 1 1/3 stop is a considerable benefit.

I would love to see them redo the 20mm, it's the perfect lens for me, but unfortunately quite poor IQ.

^^^^ I'm using their 24/1.8 EX DG as poor man's 24L, would love to see that one redone for 24/1.4 DG HSM including the awesome MFD :-)

This might be an ideal set-up with the SL 1 considering it's also not that heavy.

I felt that my 650g 17-55/2.8 IS was not balanced well on T4i (but great on 7D) so I think that a 810g lens will balance even worse on the SL1.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

Sigma has stepped up its game with recent offerings.
Very interested to see results, even though I no longer posses a 1.6 cropper.

Can you explain this to me? My Sekonic L-758DR light meter doesn't ask what sensor format I'm using, so I have always though an f-stop was an f-stop.
