Congrats - I have a D800 and 800e, but there are time I really do wish I had my D3x back. The D800 has a better sensor, but man, the D3x had such a great build, so much better ergonomics, and dang it, I just plain liked it better

Yeah, not to rain on your parade, but the D800 also has a higher useable ISO, costs less... I agree, the pro body ergonomics are better, but I'm just curious as to the logic here.

I take it from i friend in a very good price i think almost unused (2k actuations).
I had D800 and now i have a D600.
Sure the D800 has a fantastic sensor BUT the files are huge and i want a 'pro body'.
D600 will stay....

The D3X has a beautiful micro contrast and for night shots handling light sources on dark backgrounds is better than anything Nikon had done before and probably since thanks to the materials used in the LPF.

Great decision in getting the D3X! During my 3 week island hopping in the Philippines, I used a friend's D800e for quite sometime along with his 14-24mm(which I used extensively on my D3X ) and once again I gave up only after a few minutes of hand holding the D800e - such a pain in my hands. In re to the iso advantage, we rarely hit iso800 on both the D800e and D3X and the difference is very small up to iso1600. The biggest difference is the colours: D3X is more pleasing, more film like - excellent macro contrast and no adjustments or PP needs to be done at raw conversion and the D800e, while very detailed, its sterile - a lot of post processing needs to be done.
As Slug59 says, which rings true, there is something about either the LPF on the D3X or its internal processing that makes it extra special. Other than that, my friend's 128GB filled up pretty quickly on his D800e.
