Megan and Nate were married last September, but weren't really happy with their wedding portraits by another photographer. So we got together in downtown Chicago on Sunday and created some new images for them that can hopefully grace their walls.

I plan to post this in the Wedding forum as well, so pls excuse the dupiness of it. I prefer to post it here as this is where I spend my time, but it seems fitting to post there as well.

Comments welcome.

Thanks, Ron

2. At the Chicago Cultural Center. I was wanting to move them to my right for this shot, but was shooting at a really slow shutter speed on a tripod, and a CCC employer busted me on using a tripod, which apparently is illegal there.

3. Chicago Cultural Center, GAR Dome. Probably still need to work on the color processing on the couple.

To be honest Ron first 3 are doing nothing for me.
Then then I get to the rest and as you say in the USA you hit it out of the ballpark.
Stunning.

I will nitpick on the rest just for the sake of it.

In 4 I would have liked him to be facing her...maybe leaning back on the steel pole and engaged with her a bit more. would have liked his hand out of his pocket too. Great framing by the way.

5 is yummy

6 buildings look a little crooked.

7 is the one.

8 is sweet too.

They must be pleased.

The first three are awkward and the last bit are ok.

The best is #4.

They feel disconnected with you by the way they are posed. Don't know. Somehow not feeling the love and relationship b/t them at all.

Hi, Ron,

Love those bridge shots especially. Do you think it would be beneficial to clone out the contrail in number 7 that leads to Nate's head? It's a leading line you don't need.

Thanks, Bud, I really appreciate it. I wanted dramatic light on that first one, but I also wanted to keep the color of the marble and you couldn't have one combined with the other -- so I ended up in between, which is not a good place to be. 2 is okay, and 3 has potential. I don't think I got the light right on them for 3. I shot the same shot last night with another couple with different lighting, need to see how that one turned out.

For 4, I really like how this one worked out. I'd rather the hand in the pocket than just hanging there, and I didn't want it to swing across his body to her.

Nice catch on 6. I need to straighten that one out, or claim it's Piza. :-)

Thanks, Steve! I kinda go back and forth on that. I noticed it immediately, and in some weird way, I like it. I feel it leads you to the couple, not away from them. I'll probably feel different tomorrow.

4 and 5 absolute win matey. 5 if I had to choose. That could grace anyone's wall.

I notice, in all of them, you make the background more dominant than the bride and groom. I would show them cropped versions also, to see which they prefer.
In # 8, I would have moved closer to them to make them larger.

thanks hatch and Chris, appreciate it! All but the first three are getting some nice love, and that's the way I see it as well. Had hoped to pull off 3, but couldn't get the lighting right. Did the same shot with another couple and different lighting last night, so eager to see if that came out better.

@DaveOls, thanks for your comments. Yes, these were focused environmental shots, intentionally so for a number of reasons. They do have some tighter shots from the shoot, but that wasn't really our focus. As for 8, I have another shot of the skyline that I might drop them into. For me, I didn't want them to dominate the huge skyscrapers behind them. Maybe that wasn't the right call, I don't know, but I just did what felt right for me. I think I do have a couple shots of them much closer, then I moved them back again.

Beautiful images. You worked hard to get these varied, and effective backgrounds.

Not to sound like a broken record, but I thought the exact same thing as Bud. 1-3 didn't feel that great. Then I hit 4 and things got really good in a hurry and just kept getting better.

#4 stands out to me. I bet they're glad they did the second shoot. I agree with the contrail comment.

Thanks, David, Jim and Bobby! As for the contrail, I have decided that I will remove it, so thanks for mentioning that, Bobby.
