p.1 #1 · Shutter speed with flash

In a dark setting where flash is necessary, using aperture priority mode, is there a way to force the shutter speed faster than 1/60 sec by using more fill flash from the SB-900?

The only way is to have more ambient light than needed for a 1/60th exposure. Otherwise, the speedlight brightness is not exposure related since it only flashes for 1/900th of a second, which is faster than the maximum sync speed. EDIT: Actually, there is another way which is through the settings.

Yes. You shoot in manual mode. You set the aperture for the DOF you want, and iTTL measures the proper amount of flash. You lighten/darken the background with shutter speed.

Using aperture priority mode.............

Heh, I didn't think there would be a way to do it other than using manual mode.
