So I was wanting to get a sturdier pair of legs and head for my landscape and wildlife shooting that I've been getting in to lately. I put up a WTB ad and got a few hits with people selling similar to what I wanted, but nobody was selling the right set up. So I broke down and just bought it new. So far I couldn't be happier! Solid as a rock and looks to be pretty versatile. Anyway here's a couple pictures I took on my phone while out and about yesterday. I only extended 3 of the 4 sections in this one and found it was almost perfect height.

Nice one!

I have the same tripod and I'm thinking of getting the spikes and rock claws for it.

I'm thinking of doing the claws as well. Not sure about the spikes. I think the claws would serve both purposes for what I need. Let me know if you get them and how each works

the RRS tripods accept the Gitzo spikes too. I use the 1" spikes with their feet and they stay on all year round. what's really good about them is they fit the same on the TVC/TQC series unlike Gitzo that limited you on your options.

Whoa! Thanks for the heads up! Is the price any different or are they roughly the same?

I think a set of 3 Gitzo spikes with the feet is about $55. It's $32 per claw/spike for the RRS w/o a cover/foot

Yeah, the RRS are expensive but it's only money.

I like to think I spend it somewhat wisely though and for items that I will use.

Each to their own.

I had the same spikes and covers on my Gitzo, as shown in your pics above. They were Manfrotto accesories at the time. The RRS spikes are quite a bit longer so that may be more useful in certain situations. I've heard good things about the RRS rock claws so will try them first.
