My 24-105 f/4 has a little scratch in the front element. It may not affect image quality but it severely affects resale value. Any idea how much repair would cost? I don't want to waste my time and money sending the lens to Canon only to learn it's an expensive job.
Fixing it would probably cost you more in terms of repair cost and the trouble of taking care of it than you will "lose" when and if you sell the lens. These days you can buy one new, if you do so on the right day, for around $750.
I'd bet that, worst case, the loss in value would be no more than $100, and perhaps less - unless you are dealing with a truly gross scratch that does affect image quality.
Finally, why and when are planning to sell it? If you are mainly thinking of selling it because of the scratch, don't bother. Keep it. Use it. It will work fine.
