p.1 #1 · Alaska- Sea lion and glaciers-final

Last of this little series. Thanks for the kind reception to my experiment.
This post is a bit heavy on ice- my apologies.
1. The beat up 2,000 pound sea lion bull revisited (different image, though). Time to lick his wounds- if he could only DO that.
2. Bear Glacier aerial. The black lines are medial moraines- lateral moraine rocks that have been pushed together when two large glaciers join.
3. Back on the water in Kenai Fjord National Park. As we slowly approached Northwest Glacier.
4 & 5. Two more small 'bergs.

I love the glaciers Charlie, Well done! The contrast of the Sea Lion is tough to tame, especially when you have scan them.

Very nice - #3 is my favourite, with the atmospheric combination of ice, sea, clouds and sky, and the ice floes in the foreground giving depth.

Charlie, I can feel how cold it is down there. I like the different shades of blues on the ice and bergs.

Interesting set Charlie. That big old bull looks in ruff shape, regardless how what you do to the contrast. I like #3 best.

Thanks gentlemen (and Ron . Your slam brought tears to my eyes, Ron. Tears of joy).
BTW- the blue of icebergs is because the ice is so highly compressed that most of the rainbow colors of sunlight are absorbed. Blue, however, is a short and very "energetic" light wave; it bounces around and then is reflected back to us, making the denser parts of the glaciers look blue (especially if they are shaded).

Thanks Conrad, Dorian and Paul.
Mature male sea lions are like Sumo wrestlers in that they might be fat, but they are also heavily muscled and strong. In the case of the sea lions: the fat protects them from the severe bites they get from competing males.
I don't know about Sumo wrestlers, but with sea lions, all the girls like the winner- fat or not . Strong fathers means strong babies. And that means better chances for survival.
