p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Postcards from an American Paradise

Couple of quick shots from a recent trip I took to St John in the US Virgin Islands. Two thirds of the island is a National Park and the island only has two resorts, no airport, no cruise ships, no casinos, no crowds. I travelled very light with a Fuji XE-1, Fuji 35 1.4, and a rented Fuji 14 2.8. It was very enjoyable not lugging around a big bag of gear.

Not the greatest images I've ever taken more of the postcard kind of shot. Thanks for looking.

Jack

I love the blues in the last shot... it's been a few years since I've been back to St. John, what an amazing little island.

Thanks for the comments. The Fuji XE-1 did a nice job with the two lenses that I brought. Is it going to outgun my D800 and 14-24 combo? In this situation yes it is because I would'nt have wanted to lug all that gear around and in this location a polarizer is a requirement for shooting. So a D800, 14-24, and a filter kit vs. something I could just throw in my bag was an easy decision to make. The reality is that the Fuji suits my needs for 95% of what I'm doing now and the D800 rarely comes out anymore. Plus the Fuji let's you mess around with in camera panos like the one below. Fun feature to have.

Nice pics! I have been to that area many times and Francis Bay in particular (and some of the surrounding beaches) is amazing.

Like #2 very much, I think it can be more than just a postcard.

More than postcards, I think one should not be intimidated.
These pictures express your feelings toward St. John very well and from one who has been there many times, they also capture the feeling one has when you first see this island.

They're all very nice, but somewhat surprisingly for me, I prefer the pano. Not typically much of a fan of panos, but this one works great!

Looks like vacation paradise. I think those pics would do well in promoting that place.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I may try to print a few of these on metallic paper and for those of you interested in the benefits of travelling with a smaller gear setup I can't reccomend the Fuji enough. I posted some comments on it and some additional images in the "Alternative Gear " forum on here. This is the link to the post.

I've always been a Nikon shooter and will still hold onto my D800 14-24 combo but for everything else the Fuji will be the camera I take out the door. Thanks again.
