Another vote for the Tokina 11-16. The zoom range is limited, but most people have an 18-xx lens, so you've got the full range of focal lengths covered

Edit: Just notived OP has 24-70 instead of 18-xx. Ah well, missing the 17-23mm range isn't the end of the world.

+1 to Tokina 11-16, one of the best DX lenses. I really wish there was an FX version of it....

That takes filters

I think the Tokina 16-28 is more or less the FX version of the 11-16. Never used it as I shoot crop almost exclusively, but from what I've read and heard it doesn't quite shine on FX like the 11-16 does on DX but of course that's to be expected given the challenges related to going FX with a lens like this. It is nevertheless a pretty good lens overall.

EDIT: Oops! Missed that last part about taking filters. Time to log off I guess and get some sleep, so never mind me, just carry on...

I have the Tokina 12-24 and a 70-200 f/2.8 VR II with a D7000. Serves all my needs.
Effective 18mm to 36mm is wide and normal enough for my needs. Where this ends, my 70-200 takes over.

Fascinating. What do you use for events, family snaps and the like?
