OK

I did 4 more tests on the 2nd card.

155 3.23GB RAW 12FPS Avg. 5.16 FPS 107.67MB/sec
148 3.11GB RAW 12FPS Avg 4.9 FPS 103.67MB/sec

312 1.57GB JPEG 12FPS Avg. 10.4 FPS 52.33MB/sec
324 1.63GB JPEG 14FPS Avg. 10.8 FPS 54.33MB/sec

The interesting thing was, Jpeg @ 12FPS, It didn't sound like I ever got off the buffer but Jpeg @ 14fps it got into the buffer hard at about 10 seconds in. but it still made more pictures in 30 seconds.

@ Paolo,

The good thing with the 800x cards is that they usually have a lower price than than both the 400x and 600x cards I buy my cards at Amazon.uk and Amazon.de. Both the Transcend 800x and Lexar 800x are lower priced than their 400x cards. So even if you don't gain much in speed, you get it for free or even at a lower price

My biggest bugbear with Lexar is the unfathomable card speeds. The Lexar 600x cards were quoted at 90MB/s read AND write (according to the Lexar specs) so they were in fact better overall than the 800x cards, which have only 45MB/s write speed despite a faster read speed. Give me a 90/90 card any day over a 120/45 card.

I wish the 600x cards from Lexar and Transcend were still available.

manual focus
12FPS (did you use 12FPS or the mirror lock 14FPS?) ..... answered my own question 14FPS is jpeg only.

Lexar 32 GB UDMA 7 1066x ------------156 shots in a 30 sec burst

I did it 2x, got 155 once, 156 once

Another metric I thought might be useful in this thread was total size of the files produced as there was some discussion about if you shot with the cap on making a dark black photo or what your target was, and also to

I used 12fps. And no mirror lock.

I agree that most of the 600x cards have faster write speed than the 800x from Lexar or Transcend. But they(600x) where also a lot more expensive.
When you need fast cards, the 1000x cards are faster than the 600x and cost a bit less than the 600x did before.

So it seems that the 1066x cards are not much faster than the 1000x correct? I considered upgrading due to the supposed faster write speed figuring it would benefit the D800, but not sure now.

I would not upgrade when you already own the Lexar 1000x cards. It's just a small difference in the write speed.

Just a little bit different view on the speed of Lexar 1066x cards...
I've got a 64GB 2-pack on Amazon (which are on sale right now http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IQCRTXU/ ) and I run a Magic Lantern speed test on my 5DIII using 3 different cards: Lexar 1066x 64GB, Lexar 1000x 32GB and SanDisk 32GB 90MB/s. Test was run 4 times for each card and I'm posting a screen shot of the best result for each card:

A little is right. The results are as expected based on the previously reported data.

I'm curious if there is any real difference between the Lexar 1066x and the latest SanDisk 160MB/s cards.

The Lexar 1066x may or may not be much faster than the 1000x, but Adorama and B&H are having such a huge sale on the new cards that it would make since to buy them if you are in the market for some faster cards.

Many thanks to Lars, Joseph & others who've contributed their experiences/tests & benchmarks in this thread.. very helpful stuff & you just saved me some money.

I found it interesting that though the Lexar 1000x is very similar to the Lexar 1066x. the 1000x cards are only rated as 150mb max read speed, 95mb max write speed, whereas the 1066x cards are rated as 160mb max read speed, 150mb max write speed.

If I had to deduce from those numbers alone, I'd likely think the 1066x cards could crank out a ton more images on the 1DX, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Yes, thanks everyone. It would be awesome if Fred could sticky this thread so everyone could refer to it and update using Lars' methodology whenever new cards come out. Sort of picking up where Rob Galbraith left off.

Both the 64GB CF cards of Sandisk and Lexar are published to read at 120MB/s but the Lexar does its writes at 75MB/s while the Sandisk does it at 60MB/s

Price difference is below $3.

Can anyone verify which reads/writes faster?

I'm seeing ~155 MB/s reads and 100 writes from the Lexar 1066x 64GB cards on a Lexar USB reader, but who knows if there is a bottleneck in the reader or USB host. Of course write speeds in the camera are always lower. They are quite a deal when on sale at ~$90.

My mistake. I was refering to the 800x cards not the 1066x. Sadly my order for the 1066x was put on backorder so I am looking at the 800x as an alternative.

The 800x are noticeably slower, so you have to decide if they are worth it. Depending on the best current prices for the Lexar 1066x, I prefer the Transcend 1000x over the Lexar 800x.

EBH,

Right now looking at Adorama the single 64GB Lexar 1066x is at the back-ordered price of $243. As I am looking to get more than 1 card I am contemplating the 2-pack selling for $273 ($136.50/card) but I am a cheapskate and wanted the original price of below $90. The 2-pack has a premium equal to a 3rd 64GB 1066x at the sale price days ago.

Anywho the 800x card is going for $83.

Write
1066x = 155MB/s
800x = 75MB/s

Read
1066x = 160MB/s
800x = 120MB/s

here's minor issue I have with these cards... I had permanent error on 1 card and sent it in to Lexar. With quick email, I was able to receive RMA and replace the card.

the problem I have now is that they send me same card but with 1000x.
for my 1DX, would different card speed on each card give me an issue?
should I ask Lexar to replace my other 64GB 800x card?

thanks in advance.

You are complaining about a faster card?
When writing to two cards the slower one will limit the buffer clearance.
