I did a new test with my 1DX body today, Every setting exactly like the older test with my 1D4. And the same 30 second burst. I'm pressing the shutter button 30 seconds and then waiting for the light on my camera to go off before checking the number of shots. Some surprising results compared to the other body.
ISO 100
1/4000 sec
f/5,6
lens EF 24L
Gitzo tripod RRS head
I had the lens on MF so it would be exactly the same every time. No AF hunting. Just infinity on the lens. The target was just a field with some trees outside my home.
Yes the results from the Lexar 1000x and 800x would be nice
Interesting to see that Transcend 64GB 600x increased the number of frames by ~15% in 1Dx compared to 1D4, while the 128GB 1000x was nearly identical in both bodies. Also curious as to why the UDMA 7 400x 64GB and 32GB saw such a disparity in performance in 1Dx when they performed very similarly in 1D4.

with all due respect since your tests are canon specific don't they belong in the canon forum and not the general gear talk?
I'm testing the CF cards. So I would not really call it Canon specific. I'm sure a few in the Canon forum would complain because the CF cards are not Canon.
And probably less brand specific than your posts here about XQD cards for Nikon in this forum
you know as well as i do that a specific CF or SD card will not perform the same across a spectrum of different camera makes and bodies. your test bed is a canon specific product line. a CF card is a "universal" type memory device used by many camera makes and models that use it as its repository for data.
what will one result in one camera may and most likely will differ in another. you can't test an XQD card in yours while i can't test a SD card in mine.

I was also surprised over exactly the same reasons as you. I have many copies of most of these cards also. So I changed the cards with other copies of these cards, to make the same test again. I got the same results with every copy of these cards except the Transcend 64 GB 600x cards. I own 3 of those cards. And one of those cards where a bit slower.
Also remember when you compare between the 1DX and 1D4 results. If you get the same number of frames in both bodies. Then the 1DX is faster because the resolution and file size is larger in that camera. So 140 frames in the 1DX is better/faster than 140 frames in the 1D4

Agreed, but there is no staff to monitor the forums.
There are so many non-brand-relevant threads in the Canon and Nikon gear forums it is ridiculous. One funny one recently in Nikon was about a tripod for a D800, as if it would use a different tripod than a Sony, Canon, etc.
Lars - Thank you for posting. Largely because of your recommendations on this board I have gone exclusively Transcend for my cards and have been very happy with their performance.
