p.1 #1 · Special effect question

I was just wondering, how the blurred effect in the background was achieved, its obvious it was a low depth of fielld and a vignette, but it has a dreamy effect that I like. Is that what the 50 1.2 L does or is that photoshopped dreamy background.

I don't see anything unusual -- it's a heavy-handed vignette, with a shallow-dof shot.

That's what I thought, it just seems extra Dreamy in the Background.

Some lenses are prized for their bokeh, particularly large aperture prime lenses like the 50mm 1.2 or 85mm 1.2

There are plenty of alternate lenses (manual focus, non-Canon mount lenses use with adapters, older lenses) that photographers use to get this type of effect.

I'm afraid I can't tell you what lens was used here, but you could try asking this question on the Alternative Gear and Lenses forum

this processing is pretty bad. I think that's what you're seeing.

I think it's just that if it was in focus there would be a lot of detail in the architectural elements of the gazebo that out of focus give it an illusion of movement.

It looks as though he/she used a brush to lower the clarity of the backdrop in Lightroom or Photoshop.

This is a pretty normal looking background from a 70-200 at f2.8

+1 looks like something was done in post, doesn't look like standard clean Bokeh right out of camera. Can't say I'm I fan of the postprocessing, but to each their own
