Yep. I've been using that button to zoom to 100% on both the D4 and D800 since I got the cameras. It's defo there, as per Todds instructions.

Anyone know how to get rid of the red tinge on the lcd?

Yes, do what Sony did to their Xperia P phone by applying a thin film filter over it to cancel out the well known green tinge on mobile phone, but in your case red. Or convert it to infra red use.

The only think I don't like is this:
I have not tested the cameras high ISO until just now and it looks HORRIBLE! Whatever they did to boost color gamut and display sharpening has greatly increased the noise at high ISO's. It is at least two stops worse from what it was before the update. I can't even use 3200-6400 anymore, it looks BAD!

Anyone else experienced this on the D800/E?

Todd

Hey Todd,

Which camera are you referring to?

I just updated my D4, D800 and D7k and I think they look better.

After careful inspection, the noise was not as bad as I mentioned. It does have a change (more grain) but I need more real world tests to better draw my conclusion. I still would like to know if any of you have noticed a change though. Thanks...

My post wasn't quite clear so I edited it. I have had a D800 since they first came out, and the first thing I did was change the center button to go to 100% zoom at playback. So I do know that and use it... But what I don't get is why that option isn't available on the D600? Especially now that it is available on the D7100... I can't imagine why a camera that costs half the price of the D600 has that 100% feature but the D600 doesn't??

So just tried my D800 after update. AWESOME! Sharpness ad AF accuracy both appear to be greatly improved.

Really pleased with this latest round of updates. The RAW files seem to handle processing better as well.

Ha ha... I wasn't really hoping or needing a D400, but now I hope they do bring out a D400... then what are they going to use for an excuse??

Well, when I updated my D800 it changed some of my settings - like instead of shooting RAW it switched it to JPEG (which caused me some grief before I found this out).

Are the apparent improvements that some people are seeing a result of the update process messing with some of their settings - thus suddenly images are sharper, noise higher, etc. etc. due to higher sharpening levels, lower NR settings, etc. etc.?

Just wondering.

I hate to be contradictory, but AFAICT, the firmware update didn't change any of my settings. My d800 was set for RAW + JPG Large Fine, Neutral PC and it's still at those settings.

I'm not doubting you, but it sure seems curious that it wouldn't change all cameras with the update.

The new firmware make the D800(E)'s live view even worse in high iso situation?

I can't believe that Nikon make a terrible Live View system to HORRIBLE LV...

I believe that VLC associates some firmware files, even with canon ones, with digital table of contents or something like that. I don't think that's something to worry about.

I hope people are downloading and updating their D800/E bodies with the correct firmware.

I unboxed my ready-to-sell D800 and 35 f/1.4g to update the firmware and see if there was much difference. I haven't used the focus enough to tell yet, but the live view system has changed a bit. I don't know if it starts up faster or not, but it definitely still blacks out forever when taking a RAW photo. That and the very stupid focus point movement system still kill it for me. The focus point moves WAY too slowly at first only to speed up to uncontrollable levels like a person with parkinson's (propulsive gait).

The improvements aren't that big in my eyes, but...still haven't really checked for autofocus differences. They say only AF-C is improved, which doesn't help with the less than perfect AF-S performance that likes to randomly miss by a little bit forward or backward with my 35g (and a previous 35g I had tried with the same result).
