Was on a non-phography trip last month and had an hour to kill - so these are only taken near the parking lot in late afternoon sun. Normally I do not do B/W and am still on a learning curve with such processing - but these seem to be good candidates for such.

So which do you prefer color or B/W?

Nice pics. I like the color versions, and the colors and shadow in the water are really nice. The B&W versions look a little flat to me. How the heck did you get rid of the masses of humanity? I've never been there when it wasn't crawling with humans, all getting in the way and breathing my air

I believe in both cases I prefer the B&W version. In both cases the color is nice but not outstanding, while the tonality of the B&W versions is just about perfect for these scenes. The first one, in particular, seems to have a depth in the B&W that the color lacks, and the slight haze enhances the B&W version, but not the color.

I also prefer the black and white versions in both shots.

Thanks - comments much appreciated.

alrac - This was my first time to Smith Rock so I cannot gage crowds - but this was mid March, week day and end of day. So I expect it was at an all time low. As I was hiking down everyone else was hiking up to the parking lot. Also I was trying to process my B/W with an old age feel to them - which had them a little more flat.

dsjtecserv - thanks for the detailed comments. I also thought the b/w had a superior dynamic range over color on #1. Maybe it was the way it handled the difficult sky with sun barely behind the rock.

MDBarrett - appreciate the comments. Thanks!
