Great capture, Charlie. Those big boys are scary. I've been to Yellowstone a couple of times, and when I see the turistas rushing giant wild critters I expect the worst. A friend who used to work summers there said they kept a scoreboard-- Park, Tourists. By the end of the season the park was always far ahead

This is a good one Charlie (if I ignore the missing feet). Nice bands of color in the grass and a good pose.

Thanks Alrac, Colin, Tam, Ron and Ken.
Yes, I kept my distance and used a 400mm non-zoom, which is partly why the feet don't show. Also, the hooves are usually covered by the tallish grass in the meadows.
The year before, cold weather caused the elk to wander out of the park during the hunting season, and many of the biggest bulls were shot and killed by "sportsmen." So this guy only had 12 points and probably weighed between 700-900 pounds. Still, big enough to impress me.

Thanks Tom, Denovo, Douglas, Chris, David, Socrate, Dorian and Ken M.
One of the best things about Yellowstone in autumn are the changing colors of all the wild grasses.
I actually caught a bull elk "in the act" but don't have the courage to post it.
Same thing with dogs and (gulp) horses.
A couple of the rare times when good judgment wins out over my ribald sense of humor .
