p.1 #1 · Seven Sisters of the Moon

The seven sisters in Valley of Fire sit beside the road. They really are not that interesting from a photography standpoint because of some picnic structures build between each of the monoliths. But if you stand in a certain position, those are all hidden from view.
It was there that I found them early one winter morning and took some long-exposure photographs. The clouds moved enough to create streaking lines across the night's sky. A bright and full moon lit the rocks up and visibility was very good. There were a couple star trails that showed through and didn't add much interest. I deleted them.
focal length 16mm, ISO 400, f/5.6, 156 seconds.

Yes, you made the picnic tables and people disappear. Well done, Gordon.
I like the LONG exposure effect in the sky!

At first glance I thought this was a daylight shot. Then I read your posting. This turned out great!

Gordon, Great job at finding the right angle, I thought it was a shame they placed the table areas in such
close proximity to the "sisters".

You did a great job with getting rid of the man-made elements and making something happen here.

Thanks everybody. I think these formation are very cool.

I lament the picnic stuff kind-of taking away the view most of the time. I was happy with this composition eliminating those man-made stuff.

I do sometimes feel "guilty" a bit by just taking a landscape photo on the side of the road. Where's the adventure in that? While I took night photos for about 45 minutes here, not a single car passed in the night.
