What soon grabs and holds my attention and interest is the old woman, teetering on the bottom steps (with no railing) as she rinses out her mop. Egad, if she fell in, would she have the strength to pull herself out of the canal? I doubt it.
Why doesn't someone get her a bucket and a short piece of rope?
I bet that woman would be amused at your concern for her. She might even be offended! The people in these ancient towns have a way of life that is very resistant to change.
Glad you liked the photo. It's my favorite shot of the year so far.
