Figured I'd spice things up a bit with perhaps the first video for a seasonal thread. Just a quick little thing since pre-processing is time consuming and I've mostly be just testing out what works and how what works etc. If you can try to download the original file and then play it back with VLC:

Norwegian National Day again here yesterday (May 17th). This is probably the most important day of the year in Norway, and for anyone who hasn't experienced one of these it is difficult to describe the scale of the celebration. ... two things set the Norwegian version apart: ...The second is that there is no military aspect to the day at all.

That certainly makes it unusual, if not unique.
I enjoy your photos and comments, and it's fun to see your daughter growing up.

That pretty much sums up Norway as a whole i think.

Thanks. I will keep them coming...

You inspired me. Not as carefully lit (or composed) as a product photographer would do, but shows what the Canon RT flash system can pull off in a minute or two.

Impressive video, crystal clear and the colors are great...ML seems to have found a bit more 5D3 magic

Nice going Ski, Phillip Bloom noted in his 5D3 video review that you can sharpen the raw video to produce strikingly crisp imagery, seems there's much under the 5D3 covers to be discovered...and perhaps this ML effort gives us a preview of what future 'Canon ' built sensors will be able to output.

Hi,

Photon: Thanks Jess...I usually try to go "real local" when I have the chance here. When my wife is not in school, her hobby is the gardens and woodlands recovery of plants in distress, so it works out for me.

I have a few more from the Germany trip that bring back some good memories of the time spent there.

Regards,

Edd

Alright, here's some from my trip to the Land of Seven Rivers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhetysu). Our team (eleven persons, down from initial twelve) was traversing southeastern Kazakhstan's primary natural attractions. Many were photographing, myself included. My gear included the 3 zooms (16-35, 24-85, 70-200/2.8 IS) and 2 cameras (1D Mark II N, 1D Mark III) but I got to try almost all other lenses we had on our hands (70-300 IS, 70-200/2.8 IS II, Sigma 10-20 even - turned out a decent APS-H hack in the end). All 6 cameras the 5 of us had (the rest had P&S cameras or nothing) were Canons, ironically.

I'm not very happy with how the photos turned out - due to neither the landscapes being any inferior to what we expected, nor any shortcomings of gear, but because of myself being not up to the task, and frankly preoccupied with other subject matter at the time, which I'll never forgive myself for.

I'll be posting photos in small batches in order not to congest this thread. Here's the first half dozen:

Mock fortress used as a movie set.

Canon poster girls in action

The Singing Dune, just before the clouds covered everything and we got a wonderful rain/duststorm at once.

The colored mountains at Aktau.

Same
(All pics with 1D Mark III. The fourth is definitely the 24-85, as it's clearly shot with a polarizer, but I only have that one in 67mm size. The rest is probably 16-35.

Thanks Mike! That trip was one of the better "working-tours" in the past few months. Sure better than NV, except for the poker...

Number 2 in your set is awesome...an Aliens/Steven King look from the garden...

Taking some Ex-Lax-For-The-Mind time right now...just lost a Bot to major "Magic Smoke". I hate when that happens...

Regards,

Edd

That's awesome, and definitely more green than my neighbor state! Thanks for the nice comment.

As for the bot, you're supposed to keep the smoke inside, do not release it. I thought you knew that?!

Shot within 12 hours of each other. Stockings at Universal City Walk around 8:00 PM, last Saturday (after Star Trek in IMAX!), the lamp/railing shot around 7:00 AM the next morning. It seems an interesting pair to me, both shot with the 5D2 and EF 35/2.

Corndog; what are you using for these macros? I love the purple cornflower with yellow spider, and my 100L macro could never get that close - without major cropping...

Snopchenko - great travelogue, keep 'em coming...I especially like the third in the first set and the first in the second set; not surprisingly, they're similar...smooth dune, dark skies...

Jerry

Thanks Jerry. Lately I've been using a 36mm Kenko extension tube with the 100 macro non-L. Also, that's been cropped down to 10.5mp from 22.1mp. That little crab spider is pretty tiny, his body is maybe 1/4". If you don't have a set of tubes, they're tons of fun for very little money.

Jerry, your wish is my command.

Our camp one morning, after a late arrival and frenetic deployment amid cold wind.

We've descended into the canyon.

Overview of the Charyn canyon. This photo is likely done with the 70-200/2.8 IS II.

Another day, another location: drowned forest in the lake bed.

Up in the cold steppe, elevation about 2000m.

Ilya, regarding your profile, it's never good enough, but as we try to improve the effort is always worthwhile. Good stuff! Looks like a tough location for mobility with equipment (or even without).

When we see these seeds/fruits in spring, they usually have a wasp in residence. This one was vacant, making it a candidate for an indoor portrait. I used three 600EX-RT to highlight as much texture as I could, as well as the microscopic fibers around the stem. This is a focus stack of six shots.
