in post processing, what is the way that lends the best results similar to using a soft filter, lens or other in camera tool?

still using an old Nikon soft focus filter (#2 ) held in front of lens for
backlit B&G 1st.dance shots @ receptions - kinda (no, really) old school - but ALWAYS goes as large image in the albums.

Sounds interesting. Do you use the soft-focus filter any other parts of the day or only for the first dance?

#1...supposed to use the vaseline on a filter in front of the lens...#2...lace/sheer fabrics also work as long as they're taut and have a consistent pattern.

Here's another technique I ran across:

"I have an old UV filter that I have put clear nail polish around it.. you know tiny little dots..but kept a small circle in the center clear.. and used it for portraits.. in one family party..

what I realized:

1. one less step in PP'ing the pics

2-- the Out of focus back ground where more out of focus and "less sharp" (of course) -- plus -- the Bokeh of my 18-70 f/4-5.6?) got better looking --since the subject/face was always in the center..
3. the portraits had that dreamy quality in them."

That's one style that was popular long, long time ago.

Now it is so outdated.

The same thing for selective coloring.

I ask my subjects to just think fuzzy thoughts. Or if I want it to look extra soft I just squint when I hit the shutter button.
