I had been assuming that the 35 1.4 summilux R could be adapted to the Nikon D800 ..if some shaving was done. I have had good luck with the 19/2.8 Elmarit V2 . I checked with david at Leitax and he wasn t so sure . It can be done with a D700 but the D800 mirror is slightly bigger . Has anyone made this adaption ?

Even with D700, you need shave your lens. I shave it almost 3-4mm to be able to use with D700.

So I assume, you will need do the same thing with D800 at least. It is still have about 1`2mm before touch the element as for my 35lux now after shaving.

Unfortunately, My D800E is gone before this 35lux R. That is all I can help.

A great lens.

I have the 35/1.4R with a D800, and it works great. You do need to shave a little more.

Thanks so much I was worried I would buy the 35/1.4 and then find out it can t be modified . Here in the USA ...DAG has started to modify Leica R lenses for his customers . This takes all the risk out of the process for me .

Have you been happy with the D800 and R lenses . I have converted the 19/2.8,28/2.8,50/1.4,80/1.4 and the 100/2.8 .

I have just the 35/1.4 and 180/2, and both are fantastic. My main concern is the alt nature of using them, i.e. no auto aperture, no EXIF, and so on. I also own a slew of ZF.2 lenses, so I am actually considering selling off the 35/1.4, even though it is slightly better optically than my ZF.2 35/1.4. I put a test of both against each other somewhere in a Leica vs Zeiss thread recently. They are very different.

I have tried and love the 50/1.4 E60, but it is soo pricey. It is also hard to focus, I find, but the look is awesome. I used to own the 80/1.4 and would love to own it again, and the 100/2.8 I have always wanted to try. For now, however, I am holding off on all of these, since the ZF.2 lenses pretty much fill my needs and are easier to use day to day.

I found the 35 1.4 today and will have it next week . I ve been able to do a dozen long shoots (few hundred captures each) with the D800E/LeicaR kit . Thats what it takes to develop a rhythm similar to working with a rangefinder. My lenses are all small and I am finding very easy to use . I have some of the ZF 2 lenses and had most of them once but I prefer the smoother Leica aesthetic and the lenses are smaller . I value consistency in rendering so I had to decide on one set or the other and the R glass is closer to the rendering from my M9s.

Yes, both deliver beautiful results, but I find the Zeiss aesthetic to be more about transparent, life-like rendering, and the Leica aesthetic to be more about beautiful rendering. At the moment I prefer the Zeiss, in the past I preferred Leica, and who knows what I will end up with in the future.

What did it end up costing, if you don't mind me asking?
