Close-up of the same area, telezoom

What beautiful light. I like the first one most.

Hi Sasha,

What cool clouds. #1 is my favorite. In #2, I like it, but I would crop down below open sky area, the shape of it doesn't work.

A beautiful sky for sure.
I like them both, but prefer the richness of the colors in #2. They don't look overdone to me.
It's always a question about "horizontal." Should photographers go for actual level, or perceived level?
Have you tried leveling the image (i.e. lowering the right side), using the far edge of the valley as your guide? Especially the first image.

Jim, thank you for the comment, I appreciate it. I placed #2 mostly to show how different is the perspective between wide zoom on a long end, and telezoom - comparing two shots, you can see that even the shape of the clouds looks a bit different (shots made within minute of each other).

Charlie, thank you for the critique. I agree, it is sometimes hard to establish "horizontal".
In this particular case, I used trees as verticals (only in the center, to avoid the influence of distortion towards the edges, and I used hi-res version). The terrain in Phoenix is noticeably higher towards north-east (even the temperatures are ~ 10 degrees lower).

You are lucky to live in Phoenix! Great city and close proximity to all that SW beauty. I fly in there about 1 or more times a year to do the SW workshops, and sometimes I think it would be a great place to live (I hated Vegas).

Great light and shots!
