p.1 #1 · To Take Pictures of Golden Gate Bridge

I have decided to stay at San Francisco Bay Area rather than going to Pinnacle NP after Yosemite in April.

I have about 20 hours from 4 pm on 4/28 until noon on 4/29.

So.. sunset and sunrise shootings are planned. I am particularly interested in the famous Golden Gate Bridge

Would you please give me some idea where to go for shooting? Where to stay?

Thanks.

Kee

You can never go wrong shooting from Marin Headlands so that the GG bridges background is the beautiful San Francisco skyline during sunset. To get a close-up of the bridge I like to photograph from Baker Beach. Have fun

The Baker Beach and Fort Point vantage points are within a short distance of each other---if you're doing one, you might as well snoop out the other!

Kee, there are several areas where you can shoot the Golden Gate Bridge. Marin Headlands is the more iconic shot but most people stop and shoot at battery Spencer. it iss't bad but a lot of shots were twken from there. it could be a great are for night photogrphy. If you want to get into a higher vantage point you can drive to Hawk's Hill at the very end of Marin Headlands to shoot the top of the GGB with the North Tower in the foreground. There's a short climb to get up there. You've seen those shots where fog seems to be barely above the city. BUNDLE UP because it can get very windy and cold in the headlands. This is looking east south east towards the city and is located on the northwest side of the bridge via Conzulman road.

Fort Baker is on the same side of the headlands but in the opposite side as in northeast side of the bridge towards Sausalito. Follow the signs that lead to Fort Baker.

Baker beach and Fort Point are located in the southwest and southeast corners of the bridge. Baker Beach is a good location if you want reflection on the Pacific Ocean towards the GGB. I walk about 1/4th mile to get closer past the nude beach. Don't get too excited about the nude beach all you see are old guys. This is looking east, north east towards Marin. Fort Point will be next to Crissy Field and you need to pass through the Presidio. It is an easy drive just follow the signs.

There are many hotels in downtown next to the cable cars like the westin St. Francis or the Hilton which is a block away from Powell street where the cable cars pass by. If you want to stay near GGB, there are motels along Lombard street but not sure about ratings, etc.

If you want to see pictures, check my Smugmug under My Bay Area gallery and you'll see some shots. Here's a sample of the GGB with the moon shot last month from Treasure Island with a 1Dx on a 500mm using TPE for calculations.

Hope this helps.
