Ever since I've got 1DX, I am running outta frame often, and I keep cropping larger and larger, because I seem to be getting too much "reach" or something.

I've got two options: get rid of my longest lenses, or switch back to crop cameras.

Too much reach and you are considering getting back to crop cameras? Now, I am confused although I know at my age it doesn't take much.... .

Feel free to send me your 1Dx and I'll send you my 7D, your problems will be solved.

Heck, I'll even throw my 5D Mark II for free!

Nice shots, I particularly like the 2nd one with the water droplets.

Gents, I am not kidding. Since I have started shooting with 1DX, I am able to increase the crop enlargements of my files. That trend has emerged over thousands of images. The reason for it is in 1DX ability to:

(1) generate very low ISO noise files, a huge leap forward compared to my older cameras.
(2) AF more accurately than my older cameras.

The net effect is that I have gained "reach" significantly.

I must say Peter I have been laughing my a$$ off since I bought mine listening to people extol the virtues of crops over full frame. Sure if Canon had a crop with a sensor like they would have a point but Canon doesn't. Still I'M not selling off my 800 just yet

Great point, it's great to hear someone else saying besides me for a change

Tim

Tim, as they say, to each his own....... however, a few of us have a different view on the matter of "reach", and I am not bashful when it comes to describing my own experience.

Mitesh, nice shots.

However, that "test" which-camera-shot-what doesn't work in this presentation medium. I could show you some stuff I shot with 6Mp 300D, and you wouldn't know whether that was 1DX or Phase I.

Perhaps, but I was previously a member of the "crop factor = more reach" club, and I was surprised to see how well a cropped file from 1Dx could look- even when compared to a full frame APS-C shot. Thus, just because a 7D has APS-C doesn't mean that it gets you more "reach." I thought that's what you were trying to illustrate, apologies if I muddied the waters.

Still looking forward to the 7D2, aka Mini 1DX.

Mitesh, I believe that discrete comparisons of files sized for web posting are most often inconclusive. Not only that one has to look at original files, one also has to trend long term effects, because it is only based on thousands of images that a statistical kind of "truth" should emerge.
At least, that's the way I see it.

That's way too logical and rigorous for forumography. You're supposed to make off-the-cuff, wide-ranging proclamations and summarily dismiss any opinions that don't jive with your own. After 20,000+ posts, I thought you'd know that
