So what can't I shoot?

Basically it's a photographer's camera, if you want to take pictures of your cat or a brick wall, this isn't the one for you.

Actually FPS can be of help when shooting very slow shutter speed hand held pans. I can easily get no keepers on my 4fps 1Ds2, but have 2 or 3 keepers on the 7D in the same situation. I don't know if this is what the chap on POTN is referring to? 6 fps may get you at least one though!

one is enough!

One thing that the 5D Mark III doesn't do well is to take pictures of the backside of a lens cap when it is on the front of the lens and I am not kidding . You will get only mediocre results, at best.

For me the dedicated flash sync speed and the shutter lag is the biggest downfall of the 5 series cameras .

You can't not shoot nothing with a 5DIII, when the cap is on the lens.

I'm thinking perhaps a black hole, dark matter, a quark, or a flying Space Shuttle

Isn't this how you shoot hot/stuck pixels?

Sorry about that Chief. Would you believe I meant to say, "when there's no battery in the camera..."?

The lens cap is the opaque protectant filter.

Try substantially increasing the exposure. A full day of sunlight at high ISO might allow sufficient light to creep in behind the opaque protectant filter to get a good exposure of the backside, with a macro lens manually focused.

The lens is only on one side of a 5D3 so no good for chatting on Skype. iPad much better.

Extended action though (surfing?) might clog the buffer on 5D3.

Shooting raw+JPEG I find the buffer to be very small at maximum frame rate. If you're confident enough for JPEG alone I suppose it will be much bigger.

Everything on your list can be captured by the 5D3. Enjoy.

If you can get by with 6fps, you're golden.

According to one 1DX owner on the POTN forum you cant shoot planes at an airshow, you need a 1DX for that because the 5D3 af just isn't good/consistent enough. So...as long as you avoid panning with flying aircraft you can shoot anything up to 6fps

*Seriously he did complain that he couldn't achieve consistent focus with his 5D3 at an airshow and he appears to be an excellent photographer (when using a 1DX only ).*

Rubbish as below:

MF film cameras were used for these subjects for years even long after AF was invented. 5 fps was the fast motor drive.

You should have used a 1dx. That airplane's propeller is blurry.
