p.1 #1 · Canon still service Mk 1 series tele primes ???

Any Mk I prime tele series is no longer serviced by canon ?

Can they be serviced, and where do you have them serviced by a 3rd party service center/ tech who has proven themself, if canon does not

Also are parts still avaialble from Canon, if needed.

Does Toshio service them..

Yes, I think so. According to the CPS website, the big Mk I teles are still on the list of lenses eligible for repair. So, I would assume non-CPS members can get those lenses repaired by Canon as well.

I think IndyFab meant to put a question mark at the end of that sentence.

Yes Canon service and repair any of the IS mk I super tele lenses. They have just been replaced by the mkII lenses so I'm sure Canon will service them for a rather long time

Anything with IS is still being fully supported by Canon, and they will probably continue to do so for another several years.

It is the very first big white EF lenses without IS that Canon abandoned/orphaned a number of years ago: 200 f/1.8, 300 f/2.8, 400 f/2.8 (MkI and MkII), 500 f/4.5 and 600 f/4.

My 400 DO is still being serviced
I am told so is the 400/5.6, despite not having IS.

Aww, thank you Petkal, that was the answer I was looking for. As I remember reading about some telephotos not being supported...but did not remember exactaly which one's.

So would one assume, parts are not available, nor any third party techs/service centers capable of working on them.

Some parts are still available from independent electronics supply companies who at one time bought Canon's remaining parts stock. In addition, certain parts might be in the hands of third party repair shops such as KEH in Atlanta Ga, which have had access to written off lenses from which they could salvage healthy parts and assemblies.

The best camera shops in the States still seem to have the know-how required to repair those old lenses, assuming they can get hold of the parts needed.
However, my sense is that situation is becoming worse by the day, and the critical parts supply is petering out.

p.1 #15 · Canon still service Mk 1 series tele primes ???

Back when I had both my 200 1.8 and 300 2.8 non is lens, I was informed that at least these two lenses would no longer be serviced by Canon. I think I actually received a letter from Canon in regard to this.

Since both of these lenses were expensive for me at the time, I got on the phone to Canon Repair in NJ and talked to the fella that was currently over repair. He confirmed this for me and said that certain parts were no longer manufactured and that was the reason behind Canon's decision.

Canon does buy some parts from some third parties and some parts were no longer available or manufactured. After being informed of this, I chose to sell both those lenses as many others did.

I am sure there are some third party shops that have purchased the available parts inventory that was left over but I have no idea who they are. I know we still have people in the Chicago area ( I think near Carol Stream ) that were repairing Canon film bodies a few years ago.
