Price increases imply a product to sell.

Much better than discontinuation.

couldn't agree more.

please Fuji, don't kill your films. I know some people like kodak, and some people like ilford, but I will be lost without Fuji films =/

Rising prices makes film less affordable, so sales go down, which brings on more price increases, etc, etc....

What's the alternative?

Fujifilm just eating the cost increases of raw materials? Discontinuation?

Well, if it's any consolation, reading this may soften the blow.

A lack of raw sharpness is a major reason why I use film for most of my "real" work. Digital is generally too sharp for the portrait work I do. Or rather, I heavily favor my Mamiya 7 for such work, primarily because of the inherent qualities of film.

The Mamiya 7 II was a terrific film camera with first rate lenses (from the article)

Was? It still is. I use the first version of the camera and nothing else really compares for me.

I must say, though: I watched a grad student make 44x50 prints from 4x5 film last week and they look terrifically sharp. She was clearly visible as the photographer in the eyes of some of the subjects.

if I honestly gave a **** about what a digital camera reviewer on the internet had to say about film I'd probably quit photography.

it must be depressing to have to justify your own purchases in this way, guess a lot of D800e owners are unhappy judging by the article lol.

Frankly, I don't either. I've got a roll of Velvia 50 in my FM2-T as of this writing and some Ilford waiting in the frig...

Sorry about that, but the future isn't terribly bright for emulsions.

I loved it in the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, and until 2006. Velvia was golden.

But I'm glad I switched to digital and that's another reason to be so.

I'm also having a bit of trouble believing the linked article.

Film will be here awhile. Slide film may go away, but negative film is much more likely to stick around.

The only Fuji film I shoot is acros, if the prices double I'll shoot hp5 or tri-x, so that's a customer lost. I wonder what other people will do though, I think a lot of die hard velvia shooters might switch to ektar or portra if it presents a big enough saving. Honestly, I think this could have more to do with their X system then film production cost.

The price increase likely does have to do with increased production costs resulting from lower economies of scale (less film sold to fewer film users). At some point, the costs will likely become too high to justify production unfortunately.

Well said sir. This "reviewer" made it sound like sharpness is the only possible criteria that makes a good photo. I was absolutely sick reading this.

I have 10 rolls of Acros, 5 rolls of Astia and a few rolls of Delta 3200 waiting to see the light of day.
