p.1 #1 · GIVE MY HEAD A SHAKE. ( 5 )

Talked to Mr. Markle this morning and I was complaining about ants in my Humming Bird feeders. And Tony recommended a ANT MOAT. Sounded good to me so called a local bird store and asked if they had them yep at $10 a pcs. And I need four so went to the $ store and bought four kids ice cream bowls for $2.29 & went to Rona for 8 eye screws for $1.89 and stopped by a wine making place for 4 corks free and a coat hanger. Just add water. Ed

Do you also make them in other colors?

Now you can take this idea to Dragon's Den and sell these as a DIY kit.

Don't forget to refill them with water when hot weather comes.

Neat idea. I've had moderate success putting gobs of vaseline on the hanger. The ants don't seem to want to walk across it.

So you have something against 'ANT'

I like the corks

What ever you saved you might need to tip 'T Markle' with

have fun, hope the hummers appreciate your efforts!

Now, what about flying ants? Cool solution to the problem Ed. And the extra red should help attract hummers. Thanks for sharing.

I think I'll try and merge both ideas. A much smaller container with Vaseline or grease. Less noticeable and shouldn't have the evaporation issue of water.

You just need a small impassable area for those pesky critters.

I would call this good old Yankee ingenuity if not for the fact that you ain't a Yankee, not even a Blue Jay...but definitely a Canuck Well done...but I would have just tweeked it a bit and have used my own 4 "used" corks even if it meant I couldn't see straight for awhile

Another ingenious idea from the 49th parallel!

(Based on the corks, I thought perhaps the moat would be filled with vino).

Hanging from something wood? (tree, roof overhang, deck post)... try bug spray.

I fought with them for a few summers and one day I grabbed the bug spray (deep woods off) and gave a shot in their path and they avoided like the plague, so I sprayed around the post, no more ants there the balance of the year. Worked like a charm for our ants, yours might vary. What's really nice is it lasts for weeks to months. I sprayed the trees around the branch once and good all summer.
