I'm working on bettering my technique so like always, open for input/advice. Shot these with the 70-200 F/2.8 IS II + 1D MKIV in JPEG.

This is the first go around with a lot of through the fence shooting, so advice is definitely helpful.

1 - On this monitor, this image looks like it has a slight tint of orange to everything. I thought about cropping out the short stop, but I thought it might be best to leave her in.

150mm | F/5.6 | 1/1600 | ISO 320 | Spot Metering | Custom WB (18% gray Card)

2 - No ball with just the runner is boring. should I avoid images like this?

165mm | F/2.8 | 1/1000 | ISO 125 | Spot Metering | Custom WB (18% gray Card)

3 - To me, it seems like her face is a little soft and I'm not sure if it's the WB or exposure but her skin tone looks off to me (could be this un-calibrated monitor)

200mm | F/2.8 | 1/4000 | ISO 200 | Spot Metering | Auto WB

4 - Again, I believe her face is a little soft or the WB/exposure is off. Thoughts?

200mm | F/2.8 | 1/4000 | ISO 200 | Spot Metering | Auto WB

5 - I consider this the best shot because it has the key elements: Action, Faces, The Ball.

70mm | F/2.8 | 1/3200 | ISO 200 | Spot Metering | Auto WB

1... yes, yellow tint. WB is off. Crop out SS.
2... Keep them for sales, but it's not necessarily presentation worth on the boards.
3... WB seems to be okay. Just a little overexposed.
4... WB fine. A bit hot
5... Agreed this is your best.

All shots are soft. Nothing is what I would call sharp.

I agree all the shots look soft. With the combo that you have, the shots should be sharp.

Great action shots well timed. Off topic, but the does anyone know if the laces on the glove would be considered a tag. Fogretting for the moment the runner is on the plate in the shot.

The softness for me would be the biggest concern... are you shooting center point focus and ai servo? Shooting thru the fence shouldn't cause them to be all oof and these would go in the trash pile b/c of the oof.

I'm wondering if it's because of the crop, but at the same time I didn't really crop it that much. I'll post the original when I get home.

I was shooting center point focus with AI Servo. AI Servo tracking sensitivity was set at +1.

I think at regular speed without freezing the action like he did in his pic, an ump wouldn't be able to catch if the laces hit first followed by the glove.

Agree with above comments on softness of shots and that number 5 is the best action image - in this case, I would have liked to see more of the catcher, but your timing is spot-on.

Don't hesitate to move around to clean up your backgrounds (other players, etc.). Also, why are you doing CWB? IMO, AWB on most Canon cameras does pretty well during daylight.

Your timing is excellent. WB is questionable but correctable in LR4. All images appear soft. With your setup they should be sharper, IMHO. Did you have your lens as close to the "Wire" as Possible? I get this "Softness" if I am not close enough to "burn out" and too close for "Ghost Fencing"

1) too big for monitor
2) one step too early
3) not vertical
4) not vertical
5) best of the bunch, although it also appears to be just off of vertical

Nice set, thanks for sharing..

Hybrid - not sure it'll matter much but I set my AI servo sensitivity to -1... maybe some of the others could weigh in here.

Is this Landstown v Green Run? The pitcher in the 1st photo looks like Korey Hill. She's signing her college LOI next month. I'm in VB as well.
