Actually, if you read the article, it hasn't left yet.

"It is the consensus of the Voyager science team that Voyager 1 has NOT yet left the solar system or reached interstellar space."

Most of the instruments were turned off years ago to save power. That includes the imaging systems. There is nothing to see out where they are anyway.
