I know, not the sexiest topic of all time

But...

I just imported about 750 RAW files from my 5DMKIII through my trusty (10yr old) SanDisk CF card reader and it took a long time. Too long of a time. Waaaaay too long of a time.

So I am curious. What is a great, fast CF card reader that will transfer a few thousand RAW files at a time into multiple drives at once. All going through a new 15" Macbook Pro.

Thank you for any tips, and I'll be ordering one tonight, hopefully!

Jesse

Be sure to download the Lexar software updates for the above card reader to get the best speeds: http://www.lexar.com/downloads

I use the Kingston USB 3.0 reader: http://www.kingston.com/us/flash/readers#fcr-hs3
Rock solid performance, good speeds. I had the Lexar Pro and it corrupted my Sandisk CF card..

It is $15.95 with free shipping.

Another vote for the Lexar usb 3.0 dual slot - Jesse also remember your upload speed will be determined by your card speeds. What cards are you using?

This is probably a dumb question since I've only used SD cards, but what are the advantages (other than speed I'm guessing) betweeen connecting your camera to your computer vs using a CF card reader?

speed is the biggest one. Much faster speeds.

Also convenience of not having to lug your camera out, get a cord out and connect it. Instead you have a reader that can always be hooked up and sitting on your desk.

Does anyone know if that kingston one has UDMA7 support? Looks solid otherwise, may pick it up.

I just recently got the Kingston USB 3.0 reader to go with the new PC I built (previous computer only had USB2)...and wow, what an upgrade! Dumped two full 8gig cards extremely fast.

I'm also thinking about getting a reader. I found Rob's site:

The lexar USB 3.0 is a beast compared with the FW800 version I had before.

I bought a USB 3.0 card just for it, and it was worth it when downloading 32GB cards!

+1

I'm Mac and when my Sandisk firewire 800 died I got this one. It's CF only
Very happy with it, the only negative is that it won't read some of the older Sandisk Extreme III's

I also use this reader and am very happy with it. 65MB/s + with my Sandisk Extreme card.
