p.1 #2 · Meryl -- Skiing Senior Portraits -- Film

Hey Andrew,

It's been a while. Glad to see a set from you. I like senior portraits like this, because of the story involved. While I do like these, I'm not quite getting that 'Wow' feeling that I usually get from your shoots.

Here are some of the things I enjoy.
1 - Nice natural smile.
6 - Like the comp and the action here
7 - Really nice job panning here, she's pretty darn sharp, wish I could pan that well.
8 - Like the serious, I mean business, look.

a few nit picks
2 - not crazy about this one, comp just feels 'off' and her smile isn't quite the big gut laugh that warrants the closed eyes, if that makes sense.
3 - I wish that transition between the snow and trees wasn't cutting right at her forehead.
4 - I wish the presentation here was a little cleaner somehow. Feels kinda disjointed and the c/b exposures are a little different between them.
8 - just my own personal pet peeve, I wish her mouth was closed.

Nice series, Andrew! Of your film shots, 8 (my fave of this set) looks digital and 9 and 10 have a similar look to it. No. 10, I'd presume it was the lighting, but it gives her face a very broad look to it. Love the action shot/the motion of the snow flying, in 7. No. 3, I would have moved just to the right a bit to use the trees as a background for the front of her face -- as it is now, her face kinda blends into that ski run.

Overall, really nice series!

Hey Andrew - really nice set here. I used to be a ski bum back in the early 1980s out in Breckenridge, CO and seeing images of skiing always hits my heart. Good times for sure...

My favorites of the set here are 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I was totally not paying attention to the tree/snow line in the background of 1-3. I blame it on rustiness

Agree #10 her face looks really broad. She is one of the rare few that 35/50mm focal length is more flattering for.
