Here's the waveform of the shutter on the D7100. You can see the file names on the left. CH is Continuous High, CL is set to 3 FPS.

Link to the full 8.5 second screen shot (it's 1900px wide at full view):

any of you all got the 24-120/4 VR hooked up to the 7100? I just got that combo from Lens Rentals - wow, what an unwieldy POS. Just for shite and giggles, I attached my Zeiss ZF.2 50/2 MP, and it's a marriage made in heaven. Yeah, I know, zoom v. fixed, etc. So, here's my question, what are you all finding to be the most ergonomic match between zoom lens and 7100?

I put a Tamron 24-70VC on the D7100 and it's also ridiculously unbalanced. The Tamron 17-50 DX is perfect for it though.

I like the new Sigma 17-70 C OS on the D7100.

thank you for that reference. I gotta say, though, that the 24-120 is superbly balanced on my F5. I would add that if I ever got stuck going up on a hill and my EGY brake doesn't work, well, just plop that combo down behind a rear tire and it'll be GTG

Well, I decided to wait no more and got a D7100. Actually my first DSLR! Yikes...

I was into photography years ago, had a nice film Nikon camera (can't remember which model - maybe N2000?? did my own negative developing, printing etc etc. Then life happened, other hobbies. Eventually got a decent point and shoot (Panasonic LX3) but always missed having the real deal. Jumping back in with both feet.
Lots of reading to do, but I'm pretty familiar with most functions. Just really looking forward to getting out and shooting. Believe it or not, I stumbled onto the Astrophotgraphy subforums on that other site, and it kinda spurred me on.
Gonna try some Milky Way shots when I can..

Got the kit lens 18-105 - it'll do me for a while.. (first test will be baseball game in Pittsburgh and Frozen Four hockey finals (if they allow cameras into arena.. )

cheers all...

That's the best info on the buffer issue I could find anywhere! Thanks, Binary, for taking the time! Much appreciated!

No problem. It's all well and good to talk it to death but I know seeing objective evidence helps me, I hope it helps others as well.

Random observation:

Anyone else finding they accidentally push a lot more buttons on the D7100 than on the Dx00 cameras?

I'm forever looking down at my hip to see the rear LCD on, usually with the settings menu pulled up. The only time I ever turned off my D300 was packing it for travel but I'm actually switching off the D7100 to avoid this. The D300 buttons were nicely recessed - can't quite figure out why Nikon doesn't do that across all of its enthusiast cameras.

Can't imagine hiking/long walks with a camera in my hand the whole time!
