I've always wanted to do that! The juxtaposition with the tower is super cool... why such high ISOs?

Well, I'm still very new to photography and still trying to figure everything out, so for these shots I just set ISO to Auto while I adjusted the shutter and aperture. My camera offers more ISO choices in Auto and I wanted to see how the camera does with it as opposed to what I would typically set. Personally, I wouldn't normally go over 800 to 1600 ISO for the fastest shutter speeds.

Why would you need fast shutter speeds shooting balloons?, less grain, richer colours, ISO 200~400 should be good & a tripod shutter speed 500~1000th is worth a try. Given the ISO6400 the radio mast guide wires are sharp.

I didn't "need" the shutter speed that high. I was experimenting with a wide range of settings given the bright light. It so happened that that particular shot was a very high shutter speed. I like the shot. Furthermore, I was in my vehicle and no tripod. I just so happened to have my camera with me so slow shutters and small apertures weren't a possibility. Finally, hot air balloons are not an every day occurrence. There was no prior notice that they would be there. I just looked up one and there they were. Camera in hand and shot some pics.

Hello, neighbour! Greetings from Buda Those are balloons from the Central Texas Ballooning Association. You're right, they don't often fly in the Kyle area. If you want to see more of them, there's usually a club flight each month from the Round Rock area. The park next to the Dell Diamond is a favourite launch site. http://centraltexasballooning.org/

I didn't know you were involved with hot air balloons Lady Jo ......

I had a chance to shoot a few last year as part of a fund raiser for the local paramedics, but with winds of 35 at a 1000' they didn't lift off
