p.3 #1 · anyone gone from D700 to D600 and NOT regret it?

I was thinking about it, but there are just so many things that holds me back.

There is no dispute that D600 is better from IQ perspective and new features.

However, there are just so many body/handling aspects I don't like about D600:

- plastic bottom and front plate (I've seen disturbing pictures of cracks in the bottom part of D600)
- I strongly prefer dedicated switch for metering modes over button+wheel combination
- I prefer ISO placement on top plate rather than on the back.
- I like D700 viewfinder with integrated curtain and replaceable eyepieces
- I am used to AF-ON technique and AE-L button is too far for my taste
- I can have 8fps with MD-D10
- MB-D10 can use endless pro-grade batteries (EN-EL4a/4)
- strongly prefer Multi-CAM 3500FX over Multi-CAM 4800FX because of outer AF points and especially 6 additional cross-type sensors. This really makes a difference.
- can't register D600 body to NPS programme
- I don't like slower flash sync speed
- big RAWs don't really fit in my workflow (I can continue using my 2011 Macbook for processing pictures).
- I don't like the idea of having to wet-clean sensor or be afraid of debris artefacts on D600. My D700 is maintenance-free. I just let Nikon to clean the sensor once per year and never needed more than that

Hi guys, I'm new on this forum, I'm looking for an upgrade for my D300.

Lately I've gotten the chance to do some paid work and I hope to expand on that. I'm shooting for a magazine, I have to do portraits and sports.

My current setup:
D300, 16-85 VR and 70-300 VR. The last one does it's job for now with the sports photography, but for the portraits and other inside shots I borrow a 17-55 2.8 from a friend.

I love the AF of the D300 and I love it's build. I considered upgrading to a D600, but I'm wondering about it's ability for sports. The D700 is like my D300 but with an FX sensor. Is it enough of an upgrade though?

hi,

only you will know if it is enough and the D700 is an excellent body. I like full frame.

i would not hesitate to pick up a D700 for sports. i shot a peewee hockey game yesterday with my D700 and it does a great job. it isn't a D3s (just sold mine) but it does a great job.
