Sigma just announced pricing for its new 'Art' lenses!

Sigma has announced availability and pricing for its three new 'Art' series prime lenses: The 19mm f/2.8 DN and 30mm f/2.8 DN for mirrorless cameras, and the 30mm f/1.4 for APS-C DSLRs.

The updated 30mm F1.4 DC HSM lens will be available in late March for the street price of $499 in Sigma, Canon and Nikon mounts. The 30mm F2.8 DN and 19mm F2.8 DN lenses, which are available for both Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-Mount camera systems, will be also be available in late March for the street price of $199.

Pre-order the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Art series from B&H Photo.

All three lenses are existing focal lengths that have been redesigned and quality-control tested with Sigma’s proprietary modulation transfer function (MTF) “A1” measuring system as part of Sigma’s new Global Visioncategory restructuring.

Here are more details on these lenses from Sigma:

Sigma 19mm F2.8 DN – This high-performance, wide-angle lens has an angle of view equivalent to 38mm on the Micro Four Thirds system and 28.5mm on the E-mount system (35mm equivalent focal length). As a wide-angle lens with excellent mobility, it is ideal for studio photography, architecture and starry skies. Its minimum focusing distance is 7.9 inches and its maximum magnification is 1:7.4.
Sigma 30mm F2.8 DN – This high-performance, standard lens has an angle of view equivalent to 60mm on the Micro Four Thirds system and 45mm on the E-mount system (35mm equivalent focal length). This lens, which is perfect for casual and formal portraiture, documentary photography, travelogues and everyday shooting, includes a double-sided aspherical lens that enhances its optical performance. Its minimum focusing distance of 11.8 inches and its maximum magnification is 1:8.1.
30mm F1.4 DC HSM – With new optical configurations of eight elements in nine groups, as well as rounded aperture blades, the updated 30mm F1.4 lens delivers pleasing sharpness and beautiful bokeh. Its angle of view is equivalent to 45mm on a 35mm camera (which is similar to that of human vision), its minimum focusing distance is 11.8 inches and its maximum magnification ratio is 1:6.8. The lens’ optimized power distribution helps to minimize field curvature, prevent a loss of image quality at the edges of photographs and produce outstanding image quality. Its double-aspheric lens minimizes spherical distortion, astigmatism and coma, and its rear-focus system prevents focus-dependent variation in aberration. Together, the new optimized auto focus (AF) algorithm and rear focusing system ensure smooth and accurate focusing. The new 30mm F1.4 is also compatible with Sigma’s new USB Dock, which will enable firmware updates and focusing adjustments, and is expected to be available in coming months.

Nice! Sigma is really coming on strong lately with great products at extremely reasonable prices. Hopefully, that will eventually put price pressure on some of the outrageously priced, first party lenses - some of which perform worse than the Sigma's.

Did anyone notice that Sigma is not supporting Sony/Minolta A-mount for the new 30mm f/1.4 crop lens? Also the new 35mm f/1.4 FF lens is out for Canon and Nikon but not for Sony/Minolta.

Tokina doesn't release new lenses for Sony either. I remember talking to a Tokina salesperson at an expo event and was set aback by his dismissal of support for A-mount. He talked as if the mount was already history.

Do these lens makers know something about Sony's A-mount plans more than we do?

I'm really interested in the 19mm. Need a nice wide and have only heard good things about it. $199 seems like a reasonable price to buy it despite my reservations with staying with APS-C if the FF NEX comes around. I don't see myself plunking down for the Zeiss NEX lenses due to this.

$500 for 30/1.4? About what I expected, but I'm not moving from my old Sigma. Not just yet, at least.

The 30 1.4 does not appear to be available in Pentax mount either, which seems odd. I guess at least there is the 35 1.4 for when the FF Pentax arrives.

Obviously it's not the case anymore. Let me remind you that ten years ago even the brand names were also flooding the market with kit zooms of horrible quality. Everyone has moved a notch up since then.

P.S. $499 is not really a bargain price. Other lenses with f/2.8 are some $200
cheaper. With most cameras able to shoot in very low lighting conditions ...

This is meant for APS-C cameras which are not renowned for high iso shooting, hence a good f/1.4 lens is definitely worth $200 more than any f/2.8 lens in my opinion.

To be more specific, Sigma has seriously stepped up their game in the past 5-8 years. Many of their recent lenses are as good and in some cases, better, than their CaNikon equivalents. The 30/1.4 is an outstanding lens, and the 19/2.8, while slow, is also very good, especially for the price. But their powerhouse lens designs are their FF primes, and they've been making some really great glass in the past few years. All their macro lenses are phenomenal, especially the 150mm f/2.8, which is just blisteringly sharp and has beautiful bokeh. The 85/1.4 is touted by many to be nearly as good as the Canon 85/1.2L, and the recent 35mm f/1.4 looks like it's better than both the Canon and Nikon 35/1.4s. Their 50/1.4 is beautiful too (though huge).

Am I mistaken or are these the same lenses sigma has had for E-Mount just with new bodies?

^^ they said that the build quality has been improved. I think some suggested that there is a minor improvement in IQ as well.

In that case I'd imagine it's a better quality barrel, with perhaps tighter tolerances and MAYBE a new coating, but I wouldn't expect anything close to their newer 35mm

To be clear the 30mm 1.4 definitely has a brand new optical design. Its only the e-mount 30m 2.8 and 19mm 2.8 which seem to have only a build quality upgrade.

The 'old' 30/2.8 and 19/2.8 were already very good optically, especially the 30/2.8. Maybe they also changed the focusing system, because from what I've heard it was very slow.

About the old 30/1.4: center sharpness was excellent, but the borders needed stopping down till diffraction kicked in...
