Thanks so much to all of you that replied both, for the fast response and information. I think your right it is the AF-D. I also love the site that show all the lenses with the year and serial number range.
Technically it is "AF" not "AF-D",
Is it not a D lens?
I thought all AF lenses with an aperture ring where D lenses.
No. "D" was a feature added later to some AF lenses. There are D and non-D versions of e.g. the 50mm and 180mm. All AF-S lenses are D, perhaps that's what you're thinking of?
